The brillient champ man players thread!

anyone use a editor to change players during play.
I always find I play about 20 seasons (without cheating). then start a new game (with the save game ed) and start with Rushden but after about 20 seasons with the editor lose interest in the game and can't play it again with out cheating (I only use the editor for scouting purposes)

I found using an editor takes all the fun out of it.

I do use the FMscout utility though.

;)

I know!

fucking madness

I've been playing it since the first Champ man (sequal to Domark Manager) came out on my Amiga
then of course swapping to Football manager once CM became shit

Me too, man. I remember being about 12/13 and seeing the box for the first CM with the commentary on it. The commentary just seemed to set it apart from every single other game for me and made it more realistic. Used to rinse each season update for about 6-8 months or so and then wait for the other one.

Used to play with my brother and I really don't think we'd be as close as we are if it weren't for this game, although we often ended up trading blows in frustration at one of us taking too long to "look around" for players for hours on end.

Gave up playing with other people when it became clear that the game couldn't handle both players being successful at the same time, anyone else find that?

I played all the footy manager games before aswell!

champ man was the first to actually have england squads (FTW)

I remember building my team with 11 full ENG international.

in one version Sol Campbell started off as a 16 CF, he was a king in that game

thats just as bad!

the one I use has player abilty and pot abilty (out of 200)
I use it to spot future talent I end up having a youth team that does the double every year and most ofmy team come through the ranks.

but yes cheating does take the fun out of it, but if that doidn't happen i'd play it always and the missus would probably leave me!

Awwww.....great days, great days....

Did you ever play Tracksuit Manager? Player Manager (Alex Reeves FTW)? They were a pre-cursor to the mighty CM for me.

yeah

and football director
that was the best game pre CM

the peeps that made it did a whole series, but you could only buy them via post. they were the first to have int callups and foreign players

the tactic I find always works (and has done for the last 10years or so)

is like a 5-3-2/4-4-2 with wing backs:

2 CB's

2WB's + 1 DM

2CM

1AM

2CF

Always use a DM, I have for years and it works well

I've got them all somewhere at my mums - I'd buy them, play them for an afternoon, then go back to CM.

You're lucky your mum keeps that stuff for you mate, mine even gave away my fucking Star Wars toys. Even now, ten years after the event I feel my blood pressure rising as I write that.

It depends if you're a lower league manager or not. I'm a second division Ukrainian team so obviously i'd recommend signing youngsters from the Dynamo Kiev 3rd team :D
