Never seen Ronin and I'm looking forward to. I think I might have seen part of it once on Sky. If it is the one I'm thinking of, it had what I can only describe as the very best car chase ever filmed.

I wouldn't watch a film especially for fight choreography anyway. Those are the bits I go and make a cup of tea during. And by special effects, do you mean things blowing up for no good reason? Meh.

IMHO few action films are worth watching if the fight choreography is as bad as the credibility of the plot. As for special effects - whenever a yellow billowy cloud is supposed to be an explosion not caused by petrol, it's so unconvincing that it's distracting.

In my experience, this is the case. In fact, I've never come across a film described as an "action film" that I've thought worth watching (though I keep an open mind. There may be one out there). The "genre" just doesn't interest me. However, a friend particularly recommended this one to me. (During a conversation in which she suggested setting up a film club. I am now disinclined to join it).

Mindless entertainment - just let it wash over you. FWIW if ever stuck watching television or films in a country where you don't speak the language, action films, slapstick, porn, or westerns are the way to go - all of them are easy to follow even without understanding a word.
