The bonus round

Congrats on the bonus. No xmas bonus here just a festive below inflation pay impostion justified to combat the inflation caused by nurses and teachers. Still I wish the City boys well and hope they have time to spend the millions they are raking in. To be fair, I probably would know which area of London to buy a third flat in ;)

Wasn't being defensive ;)

I don't have a problem with what I do. Interests me when others do, I ask them why and they don't give an answer :D

I don't have a problem with it all, (AND I THOUGHT YOU KNEW THAT!!) others do though innit, probably the jelaous ones ;)

The lefties would say that such organisations use their weight of money to skim off surplus labour value. Ie they do no actual 'production' of wealth but make loads of money.

Anyway - back on topic.

I don't think we will get a bonus. Our company 'doesn't believe in them' (for the staff that is, the partners all get a mill each year :D )

What about the Pension funds that invest in Hedge Funds? That's production of wealth isn't it?

People don't just throw us money and expect nothing in return.

I was just trying to tell you what the objection usually it. I'm neither bothered enough nor interested enough to argue it myself :)

Is there a standard amount for a Christmas Bonus?

I once heard it was traditionally equivalent to a months pay, if so that would be great.:)

Mine is more like equivalent to a weeks pay, though.:(

Or is it usually a percentage of your annual pay? I know nothing.

it's completely discretionary, vaux. Most places probably don't do them at all. companies will make up their own policies.

Also depends on Sector Vaux.

It's also usually worked out based on who is in favour at any given time

Is it only 'money making' jobs that get Xmas bonuses or are there posters that get them in other jobs out of interest?

I work in IT, I'm not a trader . Always have done and in different sectors, I've always had a bonus of some sort.

Vastly different figures now though than when working for something like a Software Publisher.

What I meant was sectors where you can make a profit. I had a bonus years ago when doing van delivery. It was a weeks wages but as I work in the Public Sector we never get one. The only people I know who get them work in trades. Obviously everyone hears of the City bonuses but I hadn't given much thought to who else gets them and why/if it's target related.
