The Biggest Piss-take on MPs' Expenses

could always move parliament out of london so stuff wouldn't be too expensive as well

Would also boost tourism as people would want to see the new parliament whilst the old one would become a tourist centre piece.

They can fuck right off out of London :D

It would; the move would cost a fortune, and the fact that a large proportion of the population lives in or near London would mean more commuting for MPs at the taxpayer's expense.

London met university is just having to pay back the £36 million it overclaimed for students who no longer attended.....Corruption in the public and voluntary sector is rampant and people are moaning about a home secretarys bath plug......Silly season....

That would be somewhat comparable except A) they're paying it back, B) London Met can't raise their own income at will and C) aren't expected to uphold moral standards. They're just trying to educate people ffs.

The houses thing is the biggest deal for me (flipping, claiming your sisters' bedroom is your primary residence etc). Seriously... what the fuck.

C) Looks suspiciously like a £36million fraud to me. Still you go about bath plugs.....

sorry forgot things can only ever be in london... center of the universe.

i am betting there are more MPs outside of london than there are in it.

I suspect that some MPs are going to be educated too, they are going to learn that people don't like chiselers.

You dont get it. She's fucking loaded comapared to me. She earns a six figure sum. She should be paying for my fucking bath plug, not the other way around.

I'm annoyed with the principle that these people have been getting double their fucking wages in freebies that they could've just paid for out of their wages. Hiding behind the rules isn't any good when you get to write the rules yourself.

Tis true ...

I dont get an extra allowance for my costs of living, I am expected to fund that from my salary.

Why do they they get this extra allowance.

No i dont get it.
I dont get how stupid people are to be manipulated by blatant news management.....While everybody is faking outrage about a few hundred thousands being siphoned off in mps expenses.....They are being robbed blind by corrupt people in the public and voluntary sector who are siphoning off billions.....
Donuts.

Hazel Blears in biker gear, how did I not clock that. ABSURD. Like watching Brown try and smile and do that twatty head bobbing thing.

Who's going to get the biggest kicking this week then - Labour or Conservatives?

Labour. Tory sleaze is old hat. The moralising we've been subjected to from up high over the last few years (benefit fraud adverts etc) will add to the hate factor about 100 times.

Hmmm. Point taken. Blears looks insanely out of touch, Brown's drowning in twattishness. Bit of a dig at Duncan, then back to Labour bashing for balance.

Given that constituencies represent a certain number of electors, the fact that around a third of the population of the UK live in London, South-East England, and East of England, means that a lot of MPs will represent constituencies in those regions, so moving Parliament to Newcastle or some such place would mean more Southern MPs going North than Northern MPs now come South.

There's not a lot of difference with this current shower.

Not anymore!

The Telegraph Expenses Files on the shadow Cabinet disclose that:

* Michael Gove, the shadow education secretary, spent more than £7,000 in five months furnishing a London property in 2006 before “flipping” his second home designation to a new property he bought in Surrey. He then claimed more than £13,000 in stamp duty and other fees from his Parliamentary expenses for this property. Mr Gove’s behaviour surprised colleagues because the former journalist was only elected in 2005 and is close to Mr Cameron.

* Andrew Lansley, the shadow health secretary, spent thousands of pounds renovating a thatched Tudor country cottage shortly before selling it. He redecorated inside and out with premium paint at a cost of £2,000 and re-shingled the driveway. He then “flipped” his expenses to a Georgian flat in London where he claimed for thousands of pounds in furnishings including a Laura Ashley sofa.

* Francis Maude, the shadow minister for the cabinet office, attempted to claim the mortgage interest on his family home in Sussex. This arrangement was rejected by the Fees Office. Two years later, Mr Maude bought a flat in London a few minutes walk from a house he already owned. He then rented out the other property and began claiming on the new flat: the taxpayer has since covered nearly £35,000 in mortgage interest payments.

* Chris Grayling, the shadow home secretary, claimed thousands of pounds to renovate a London flat 17 miles from his family home. Mr Grayling already owned three properties within the M25 but still bought the flat with loans subsidised by the taxpayer. He then claimed for work on the property for up to a year after it was carried out. This enabled him to claim close to the maximum amount allowable under the expenses system during different years.

* Cheryl Gillan, the shadow Welsh secretary, claimed for dog food on her expenses. Last night, she said that she would repay the money.

Please lambast every one of these basterds. I hope they get flooded with angry emails. They plain, simple don't give a shit.

"But it was within the rules!"
This shows how clueless these shitheads are.

It's because they think they're worth more than what they get paid but daren't ask for too much of a salary in case it upsets the electorate.

So they have a series of fiddles in place to bump their wages instead and it is accepted throughout the Westminster village as they're all at it.

You don't hear many howls of indignation from the Tories or Libdems about this, do you?

Yep. Some of these expenses are disgraceful. And of course they would none too happy to continue taking out these ridicolous expenses. Utter contempt and greediness...

I was about to post about this.

They spend their time talking to, and dealing with people earning far more than them, some of whom are half their age and treat them with the disrespect they deserve. They view the total figure as their actual salary and if they need to use creative expencing to get it, hey they deserve it.

A % of them started out with a respect for Parliament and cannot deal with the fact that they are treated like the cheap whores they are.

eta, There of course certain honourable exceptions

like there isn't more important things in the world....yawn.:o:o MP's take an expansive view of the expense policy....wooo. Did anyone break the law or even the rules? not as far as I know. yet another example of the uk media focussing on the wrong thing to keep us all busy whilst the real issues of the day get ignored. Gordon Brown earns approx £120k a year yet directors of banks get £600k a year in retirement after basically wrecking the entire financial system. utter bollcocks.

i genuinely don't care

if they did a good job then i wouldn't care if they got 50k a year or 100k a year. it's the fact that they are all shit at their job that annoys me,

this whole expenses thing is a distraction from the bigger picture. i can't believe that labour are playing along with it (edit: yes i can lol)

I think fiddling the system is an example of them not doing a good job.

Yeah. Building a new houses of parliament would save TONS of money. :D

sorry forgot things can only ever be in london... center of the universe.

Of course there are. If parliament moved to any other city there'd still be more MPs outside that city than in it.

:D

Don't be silly! There can't be any practical reasons for having parliament in the capital city which is also by far the most populous city in the most densely populated area of the country! It can only be because Londoners are self-centred!

I was about to post about this.

Yeah, you're probably right about their way of thinking. Given that they also spend their days talking to and dealing with people who earn far less than they do, it's even sicker that they think £60k p.a. (plus earnings from as many additional jobs as they like) isn't enough.

Forgot to say: the biggest piss-take is either the second-home flipping scams or claiming nearly £30k for renting a housing association flat when you own a home not far away and are a millionaire.

The funniest one is the MP claiming for workers changing his lightbulbs. :D That's like something from the Onion.
