The Big Chill 2009

We went last year and are going again this year.

In fact, I just went to the Post Office and picked up our tickets.

This year we'll be taking wasp repellent...

I bought ticket about a month ago but the email says they will arrive about a week before the festival. How come you got yours so early

Are they selling tickets through more than one outlet this time? Last year (or was it the year before) one ticket agency was dispatching them on demand, i.e. as people ordered them, the other was waiting until a week before the festival.

Cool! I hope tickets hold out this year, got a few expenses at the moment, need to save a bit of money before I can get mine.

We gots our tix. Didn't bother last year (we seem to go every other year) which having read the comments I was glad about, so I hope it's better run this year. Line up is too good to miss this time though.

I am going to try to see some music this year, rather than being Mr Twatted for five days straight

My birthday falls Big Chill weekend every year and I get a little chemically enthusiastic. This year it's on the Thursday, when we have a barbeque and then get stuck in

Thank fuck for Basement Jaxx, and not effing Leonard Cohen this year,

and Congo Natty
and Spiritualized
and Kode 9
and Max Romeo
and Orbital
and laying about

:)

fingers crossed I should be working big chill this year... only taken me like 10 years to finally make it, still got some arm twisting to do, but I reckon I should be there:cool:

also, if anyone's looking for volunteer work for big chill to get them in, I'm managing network recycling's staff and volunteers for the summer, and we've uppped our volunteer numbers by 50 this year to 200, so there's a fair few places still going on that one (litter picking / recycling etc)...

bit hardcore on the hours at 20 hours total shifts, but there's the option of doing 2 of them on the monday, or 1 on friday and one on monday so you only do 2 through the main festival, and I believe the volunteer stewarding is the same number of hours, but less option for working outside of the main festival time... </plug>

Just got our tickets - woohoo! Never been so I can't wait. The student discount of £35 is a real bargain fair play. Brill line-up this year: Orbital, David Byrne, Pharoh Sanders, Josie Long, Gruff Rhys, Metro Area, Helios, loads of others....

Leonard Cohen was the highlight for me last year. I'd never been interested in him but went to see him out of curiosity and just got blown away by him.
I'm very much looking for to this year though :)

Apart from David Byrne, Orbital, and Norman Jay I really haven't thought about who I'd like to see.

Probably try and see Max Romeo, Slam, Chris Cunningham maybe.

Who are you going to see?

I'd like to see The Gist, Emiliana Torrini, Dub Syndicate, Dennis Bovell, Friendly Fires, John Hegley, Brian Appleton and probably a few more (as well as Byrne and Oribital, probably).

The line-up seems to have improved since I bought my tickets :)

There's so much goodness on this year that I know I won't get to see them all (inevitably some will clash) so in order of priority...

Must see
David Byrne
Calexico
Chris Cunningham
Kode 9
Michachu
Pharoah Sanders
Telepathé

Want to see if they don't clash with any of the above
Emiliana Torrini
Erik Truffaz and Sly Johnson
John Cooper Clarke
Lindstrøm
Max Romeo
Shackleton

Others I might have a look at
Basement Jaxx
Favela Chic
Friendly Fires
Gong
Slam
Toddla T

Chris Cunningham and Basement Jaxx clash on the Friday night I believe.

Another must see for me is Gruff Rhys!

anyone got the combined coach/entry ticket? Last year the wait for the taxis back to the train station was easily the worst part of last years big chill for me, what a bowl of fuck. Would it be better taking the coach?

I'm getting excited now, only another week to go. We went with a big crowd of friends last year but just a few of us going this year. I intend to enjoy myself on behalf of those that can't make it though :D

Alright, got a ticket reserved if I want to work it.

Should I/Shouldn't I?

It's not too poncey is it? The line up looks absolutely fucking sick, but the train line at the moment is a bit shite, surpised it's going to take 2h from near Bath/Bristol but hey that's life I guess. They chip you £25 towards travel costs if you work it, too! Nae bad...

No monsoon rain expected right? Bah I need to make up my fuckin mind! :D

That depends on your idea of poncey, but really it's not that bad. Sunday can be a bit naff - a lot of ppl seem to go just for that day and there are noticeably more families and kids there, but mostly that's in the afternoon.

Weather forecast looks ok, the line up is ace. Go!

The line up looks about a zillion times better than the last time I went, but I - and the Big Chill regulars we went along with - really hated the poncey crowd there and haven't been back since. Maybe it's changed since then...
