The first couple of times I listened to it, it just sounded over complicated and too busy but after repeated listening it really grew on me. I do find it very prog rock yet still being very metal. It's a challenging album but very rewarding if you put the effort in. I love it.

I would go with what LDRUdeboy mentioned above - Mastodon's Blood Mountain.

It's pure old school unadulterated heavy metal, mixed with something of Queens of the Stone Age, and a bit of proggish intelligence. It rocks.
