The best rock record of the last 10 years is.....

Kyuss may have still been about in '96, but their last record was '95 I think.

For the QOTSA fans, there's this...

Surely their best lineup?

yup. '...and the circus leaves' town was '95. think they knocked it on the head in '97. awesome live though :)

i'd probably go for something like 'Blast Tyrant' by Clutch (although i'm listening to Deftones 'White Pony' at the moment, forgot how much i liked it)

Why? I want answers now.

I even think Nebula are much better that Kyuss. I do like Kyuss but they are still well overrated IMHO.

Thank you very much.

I had real high hopes for this one having heard various board members wax lyrical over it recently.

I have tried 3-4 times now and I just find it dull

Dunno - it isn't doing it for me.

As for my nominations?

Hmm

QOTSA, Monster Magnet or Masters Of reality probably.

It's not bad. I think Live Through This is a bloody classic, but I guess that's too old.

Yeah, LTT is good too.

I think she would be recognised as one of the greatest female artists alive if it wasn't for the fact that most people will always see her as Mrs Cobain.

Anyway this thread is bollocks.

Everyone knows it was The Darkness' last album.

BTW Justin left the band this week. :(

But they are carrying on without him. :)

the fact that the other three reckon they've got a chance without Justin is somewhere between heartwarming, depressing and totally fucking stupid.

although maybe now they'll sound even more like Thin Lizzy. that would be

Nah, they'll sound like Velvet Revolver while Justin will end up like Axl.

I await axl's darts related single, at least justin doesnt take himself at all seriously...the novelty of them was always going to wane fast but they made me smile and I hope he sorts his addiction out.

The first couple of times I listened to it, it just sounded over complicated and too busy but after repeated listening it really grew on me. I do find it very prog rock yet still being very metal. It's a challenging album but very rewarding if you put the effort in. I love it.:)

On your recommendation I tried this out. Not the sort of thing I usually listen to, but actually pretty well done.

Much more intricate than this kind of metal usually is.

its gotta be "Seven nation army' by the White Stripes or possibly
Queens of the Stone Age's “Feel Good Hit of the Summer” (“Nicotine, valium, Vicodin, marijuana, Ecstasy and alcohol/ C-c-c-c-c-cocaine”), catchy.

It just squeezes in cos it was released in 96, but i reckon its...

Wail - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

The dirtiest, riffiest, rockiest song evah. Would sound great in a lap dancing club methinks - just the right amount of sleaze

'Rock' is like 'Country' or 'Blues' (nicking a theme from another thread.

I'd say in the subdivisions Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench would be battling it out against QOTSA - The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret.....

:)

I would go with what LDRUdeboy mentioned above - Mastodon's Blood Mountain.

It's pure old school unadulterated heavy metal, mixed with something of Queens of the Stone Age, and a bit of proggish intelligence. It rocks.
