The Best Dylan Song. Ever.

It Ain't Me Babe
Masters of War
Joey
You're A Big Girl Now
Mama, You Been On My Mind
Visions of Johanna

Short of "Down In The Groove", you can't really go wrong with Dylan.

Me likes "I Dreamed I Saw St Augustine", "I'll Keep It With Mine", and "Rocks And Gravel" a lot.

When He Returns is from Slow Train Coming, isn't it? I like that album, whereas I find Saved just a little bit too preachy!

Er....is it? All the books say Saved is more preachy, but I can't see the difference myself - they're both Armageddon stuff.

Dylan really isnt my cup of tea but I've got a soft spot for Hurricane which my old man used to play all the time when I was a nipper.

Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

Yep, listening to it now it's definitley my fave. One of the weird things I like about it is that it takes up one whole side of the Blonde on Blonde vinyl lp :).

It's more or less impossible to pick an outright fav but Tangled Up In Blue is pretty consistently near the top of my list, absolutely beautiful song and wonderful wonderful lyrics.

I nearly picked this, but the version that was released on the Bootleg Series of albums.

My mum's a big Dylan fan and used to listen to Desire a lot....when I was little I used to love it as I thought it was like stories, you know like those tapes with nursery rhymes on? My favourites were Isis and Joey, I thought they were sad and slightly scary little tales to be listened to alongside my Babes in the Wood tape :D

Its funny Scumbalina a friend of mine used to compare Dylan songs to Nursery Rhymes. Unfortunately I think he liked Dylan a bit too much for his own good. Used to get very boring when he was drunk and play it to the exclusion of everything. I think people get a bit obsessive about Dylan.

But Dylan has come out with a lot of really good songs.

Another good one that nobody has mentioned is "Meet Me in the Morning" off Blood on the Tracks.

Maggie's Farm

Because of his reputation for being patchy live, I was a bit apprehensive about seeing Dylan in Manchester in 2002. It'd have been such a let-down if he was crap. I knew it was going to be awesome the moment he walked on stage and started playing that song. :D

He's got such charisma and energy, even now. Apparently the crusty old bugger even spoke after a girl ran onstage and hugged him in Sao Paolo a couple of weeks ago. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080307/od_nm/dylan_odd_dc_1

Cannot pick one favourite song but in addition to the fantastic earlier masterpieces mentioned his recent album Love and Theft has some really great bluesy underrated tracks:

Mississippi
Summer Days
Bye and Bye
High Water
Sugar Baby

Just the thing to have playing over and over while lost in the Lakes in the rain...

I worked in your orchards at peaches and prunes,

Slept on the ground in the light of your moon

On the edge of your city you seen us and then

we come with the dust and we go with the wind

California and Arizona I make all your crops

And its north up to Oregon to gather your hops

Dig the beets form your ground cut the grapes from your vine

to set on your table your lifes sparkling wine
