Welcome!! :)

The Beat : Very definitely not crap. Looking forward to seeing them in Dorset in a few weeks' time.

See ya down the front, Dub and Mr Steev and Lubi and others ... !!

are they touring? or just playing darn sarf?

They played at Camden Underworld recently. I managed to get on stage at one point and was sharing the mic with Rankin Roger until a bouncer chucked me off stage. Great fun.

haven't seen them this time around but i used to love them.

thanks for reminding me bird - i'll have a listen when i get home.

nice one rollem - definitely not crap!

i fucken love the beat...i grew up listening to their stuff cos me parents were well into two-tone and reggae. i've seen them at glasto a few times in recent years and they even played at Jamm in Brixton last year...it's only rankin roger left from the original line up but they put on a wicked show and play all the classics, as well as a few new tunes. these days they change the lyrics in the chorus of 'stand down margaret' to 'stand down tony' and 'stand down george'

in a way, i think the beat had a little more depth than many of the other two tone bands - they were musically more varied. e.g. tunes like 'rankin full stop' were full-on uk ska / two-tone, whereas tunes like 'click click' were basically punk...and their cover of 'cant get used to losing you' is a hoot. my fave tune has got to be the original of 'stand down margaret' which was put together with 'whine and grine', a remake of an old prince buster track IIRC.

didn't rankin roger and andy cox (?) form general public after the beat split up?

they've got a website at http://www.twistandcrawl.com/ and you can listen to a few of their new tunes there.

Not crap, for sentimental reasons.

I played Rankin' Full Stop at Offline on Thursday, funnily enough.
