The Autumn Music Competition Thread

cheers! no live instruments as such, but the main synth noise that runs through it was played in live and left unquantized to preserve the feel, and same for the second bass instrument that comes in.

i have to give respect to my mate (who co-wrote / produced) it with me as well, first time he'd used cubase, and did a great job arranging the track (cheers dogwanker).

OK, last minute style, here's mine:

Why would I?

Could do with a lot more work, but I want to go to the pub.

As long as no-one has any objections, I'll stick all the entries ina zip file tonight or tomorrow, to make it easier for peple to download all the entries in one go.

Grrrrr between faffing around, college work and sem-serious health issues, i haven't finished my new track :( It was even a John Peel themed track :(

So all your gonna get is an oldish track i did a while back.

Benzo's At Work

OK, here comes Drop Era. The levels are a bit fucked so, aaaah, apologies if I blow your speakers. Also, its a pretty shit tune which is far from finished but as its deadline time I thought I might as well enter. Drop/Era

Oh and all the tunes on here are wickid, they all rock in their own special ways. S'gonna be hard to vote for just 3 when the time comes.

First off... thanks Ninja! :D

Secondly, I actually turned down the grimeyness as I wanted it to sound alright on crappy speakers.

And finally, if you really want to remix it then just say the word and I'll send you all the sounds on a cd. I'm sure you'd be able to make it more interesting than its current incarnation.

Here be a link to a zip file what contains all the entries to this here music comp:

http://theskyisbig.co.uk/audio/U75autumnmusiccomp05.zip (56Mb)

Maybe if that nice ninjaboy starts a voting thread, he could include this link :)

If anyone would rather their songs weren't included in said zip file, let me know and I'll sort it out.

Haven't had a proper listen to them all yet, looking forward to it though.

So do we vote now? Is it competition etiquette to post a short review of your three chosen tunes?

I think any feedback is always much appreciated, positive, negative or otherwise. If I have time I usually try and write something about all the entries, but it's not compulsory or anything.

1] Ninjaboy ~ Teenageagnstremix

Does it exactly what it says on the tin. Really gets good from about 3.20min, and reminds me why I rarely listen to placebo anymore.

2] Jodal - Era

F'ing class man, nearly put this one first - but it sounds too polished. Very well done, love the samples - but there could be a bit more going on at this point

3] Moggy - benzosatwork

Again, does exactly what it says on the tin.. keep waiting for it to kick in, but it never does. Must be the vallies :)

---

I'd also like to mention's wintermute's efforts, and boing's... boing just didn't quite get to third because it sounded too like background computer music, but I did like it :)

Thanks to Ninja, Chooch, Firky,Top Biller and Funky Ken for the very kind and constructive comments. After the competition I'll try and boost up the bass and put in some more grimey elements and post it up again.
