The annual single malt whiskey thread

sainsburys do a decent own brand single malt and it's cheaper than many top shelf brands, but has to be Oban FTW.

I'm currently attacking a bottle of Laphroig Quarter Cask, a thirtieth birthday gift, which is very complex, peaty and slightly iodine-ish. Still working it out.

Tonight I am mostly drinking large espressos laced with Marie Brizard anisette to wash down and slightly counter my 2mg xannax.

Yuck. Peat and idodine. How can people get pleasure from that? I just don't get it. Why do that to whiskey :(

I just split some mud and carpet cleaner on my kitchen counter. Want to lick that too?

As I tend to sip my whisky from a glass, rather than lick it up from a poorly maintained work surface, I think I'll pass on your generous offer.

In my previous job we bought 5 bottles of 40 year old Lagavulin for a very much-loved colleague's future birthdays and christmases. Sadly he died before we could give him the final three, so I inherited them. Truly marvellous whiskey, drunk each time in memory of a lovely man :)

I also like Talisker and some of the Islays, particularly Bunnahabhain. :)

I've heard of 'dead mans shoes' - but 'dead mans whisky' is a new one on me !

Bought a bottle of Laphroaig the other day, as a little Christmas present to me. It's lush.

I'm drinking Jura this christmas. Well actually I'll probably be all out of it by then and be firmly back in gin-and-tonic-with-cider-instead-of-tonic territory :(

I favour the Irish whiskeys over Scotch (being of Irish descent is probably why) and I'm a big fan of the Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt.

Bells is for heathens who know no better, and as for the dreaded stuff that is supposedly meant to be Scotch and is known as Beneagles, don't touch it with a barge pole. Euuurrrggghhh! For it is foul and evil.

I have bought my BF some whisky as a xmas gift and think I may have chosen wrongly? I purchased at the airport so non returnable aged 12 years chivas regal and saw the other day that he had treated himself to a bottle of Jura whilst I was on holiday.

So how will my bottle be received ?

Chivas Regal isn't a bad brand, by any means.

He should be fine with it.
