The Acid House appreciation thread

There has been some really good acid house stuff coming out though, there will always be the mediocre stuff, there was in 1988 so I don't see why it should be any different now.

Have you heard the 2 Krax EP's? They are really good, as is the Sendex EP on Bunker, very authentic sounding but with much better production and pressing than the stuff from back in day, especially Trax records.

If your all going to Bangface then I'm going to make a conceious effort to meet some more urbanites.

Exactly – there's plenty of crap around from the 80s as well.

I haven't heard the Krax EPs, I'll have to check them out.

We'll all have to meet at Bangface and do battle together :)

It's a love/hate thing, but I don't know how much of that is to do with his being in Frankie, I think it's wicked. It's compiled on Ivan Smagghe presents Death Disco. Think I heard Marco Passarani play it once too.

BTW there should be plenty of acid house action tomorrow night at George IV - only a fiver! Dutch boys Delsin hit Brixton!

i remember seeing a guy called gerald and 808 state in blackburn for 3.50£ back in 88. AGCG did a ten minute spot of voodoo ray then stormed off stage. 808 state did 15 minutes then stormed off stage too. theres me thinking  ... it transpired that someone had knicked AGCG's jacket and he was pissed off about it and 808 stated they wouldnt play till it was given back...

alas it never turned up and there was a lot of pissed off acidheads... :(

ah memories... :)

808 states flow coma for me

They start the Hard House night at 6?

Yep - if you stay, you pay another £3 and keep going! Loads of hard house heads are there all night, pleading everyone to play harder! It's well funny

What to the Hard house night? :D

Not sure if I can, one of my best mates has got an acoustic gig in a pub in Twickenham on Saturday night, depending on what time it finishes I might pop along.

I'm sure the music is gonna be wicked.

Dunno about funny. Medieval maybe...

What about you then carter? Are you working again?

Yeah, working Fri, Sat, Sun. If I didn't have college on Monday, I'd definitely come and just struggle through Sunday, but... :(

I always thought it was the blips that made it acid house.

But the original meaning of the word 'acid' in this context was to sample or 'rip'.

So who can say...? :)

Not sure if that's true tbh. AFAIK, it was Tony Colston Hayter who said that acid burn meant to steal a sample, but he was bullshitting to deflect the media attention away from the drugs thing. Apparently when DJ Pierre et al made Acid Trax, they thought it sounded a bit like acid rock.

some of my fav's include these beauties...

armando - land of confusion
s-express - superfly guy rmx/the trip
extasy club - jesus loves the acid
DHS - this is acid
charles b - lack of love
pierre - dream girl
fast eddie - acid thunder
stakker - humanoid
gerald - voodoo ray
phuture - acid trax

then there is all the acid house with no 303s like airport 89 and 'the dream' by acts of madmen, but i still think of them as acid house

Most certainly.

The daddy of them all IMO is 'Acid Man' by Jolly Joger. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Also:

Fast Eddie - 'Acid Thunder'
Joey Beltram - 'Energy Flash'

QUOTE]

Mate you have a great taste in music i would have said 'Acid Man' by Jolly Joger and then Joey Beltram - 'Energy Flash'.

superb

Cant be bothered to read past the first page so sorry if its already been mentioned, but how about the mighty LFO by LFO?

Oh, I thought it was the LSD-like blips too. But I was a little too young for acid house. :)

How the fuck is acid jazz related to acid? It's pure shite.

I wouldn't call that acid house - too late for acid house really - it's bleep!
