The Acid House appreciation thread

"-The time is right, for dancing in the streets..."

I've been expecting a renewed interest in acid (house) and acid (the drug)...

Three factors to consider:

1) The inevitable plundering of the past which is currently rolling on through the eighties. (-It's almost 20 years since acid house! )

2) The pendulum that's swung away from dance to rock in the last two or three years is bound to swing back as fashion inevitably tires of guitars.

3) Crucially, I think, this all coincides neatly with the banning of mushrooms this year. A whole load of new people that've got a taste for them while they were legal might turn to doing acid if it became widely available. Then the music would get suitably acid-ier, IYKWIM...

I dunno, just me thinking aloud here... :o -I'm far from being down with the kids nowadays, so maybe all of that's already happened/happening this year?

-What say ye?? :o

Okay, I agree it probably won't be as massive as before.

But I'm interested in whether the increased availability of (legal) mushrooms has been contributory, or whether it's simply the latest old musical fad to be plundered?

 :)

halucinogens have nowt to do with acid house anyway. i think the electro revival just led to it quite naturally - it's a lot of the same people.

Maybe not originally, especially not the early music makers themselves.

But I believe that it's fair to say that over the years 'a few' people may have enjoyed acid house under the influence of hallucinogens... :D

certainly - i've also enjoyed hiphop, metal, ragga and punk under the influence of hallucinogens...

that doesn't make all of them 'acid' music.

There has always been a bit of confusion over Acid. I always thought the name "Acid" didn't just refer to a 303, thought it was more of a blanket term to describe the heavier side of the chicago house sound even if the tune has a 303 in it or not. When house came over here to the Uk was picked up on by the mainstream media as a way to describe the new "Acid House" culture.

Although when someone says to you Acid, I immediatly think of a 303.

I've quite been enjoying the acid revival over the past year. Some of it is derivative drivel, some of it is very enjoyable in a retro way. But I'm a sucker for even the mediocre stuff because I love the acid sound.

I'm going to see Ceephax Acid Crew next week – I like a bit of medieval mentalist acid action :D

There has been some really good acid house stuff coming out though, there will always be the mediocre stuff, there was in 1988 so I don't see why it should be any different now.

Have you heard the 2 Krax EP's? They are really good, as is the Sendex EP on Bunker, very authentic sounding but with much better production and pressing than the stuff from back in day, especially Trax records.

If your all going to Bangface then I'm going to make a conceious effort to meet some more urbanites.
