The 90s activist world!

I've got various bits and pieces at home including issues of Evading Standards, pamphlets and leaflets, even one of the RTS masks. What i don't have at the mo is a working domestic lappie, nor a scanner of any description.

Any ideas of anything in particular you're looking to concentrate on? I'd love to have an excuse to root through some of my boxes and shelves, it would be the proof i've needed for g/f that this junk (her words)/ephemera (my words) is worth keeping.

well paulie, to be honest, i'm interested in anything really! it's just getting it out there for people to see what a fertile time it was, look at all the ideas (good and bad), all the squats and actions, the media coverage etc etc. my chosen cut off point is mayday 2001, because by that stage even i was using the internet and i want to be looking at stuff that isn't easily googled, but ideally i want to really cool stuff of the 90s, especially RTS and roads protests, CJB stuff, as these were what i was involved in and can tell stories about from time to time. I'm as interested in the yoghurt weaving side of things as i am the practical useful stuff too!

I'll do some digging on the weekend and see what i've got then

although i have to say, i didn't do much yoghurt weaving that i can remember :D

A copy shop will scan stuff for you. Very often, taking a photo is good enough (digital, or get a photocd from the developers)

Wow, your site's gonna be HUGE with all that stuff lol! Are you going to include links and videos on your site? If so, this is a must have resource:

http://www.kinokast.net/past.htm

Also there's the reclaim the streets wikipedia entry and at least one official website that still seems to be running. And you can check out the schnews archive:

Can't upload photos atm cos lappies fucked and i don't know when i'll get the time to get along to t'shops to sort it out.

But thanx anyways, hopefully, it won't be too long before i'm connected again and it will give me some time to reminisce about all those happy times.

well, i'm not going to replicate anything on other sites if possible. no point in doing the extra work. but i'm quite happy to link to other archives and resources.

actually it was wikipedia that inspired this in some ways. see, i've tweaked some of the wikis to do with RTS and the No M11 Campaign but found myself up against the 'citations' barrier. Once some of this is up there will actually be online citations!

Somewhere I've got that classic Keep It Spiky leaflet from the CJB march, along with some other bits and pieces. I'll have a delve through some boxes.

Fair enough. I imagine there are people from all the lefty sites who'd have flyers etc to add to your collection, if that's the case.

Right, I just dug out some old stuff. I used to have loads more, but I chucked a load of it 2 years ago when I moved.

Some is too big for me to scan, like a J18 flyposter, a Velvet Revolution tour flyposter, a copy of Evading Standards and a Birmingham G8 RTS flyer/leaflet.

The stuff I can scan, I will email to you. What resolution and format do you want? I'm guessing 72dpi jpg's.

sounds right to me - ideally we want people to be able to read the small print. i'n not very tech savvy when it comes to image manipulation and whatnot but i'm sure i can learn!

pinning it up or laying it flat, then taking a photo of it should be good enough.

Cool - the 'Save the Trafalgar Square Pigeons' is within your remit then? I have some direct first hand anecdotes of going on underground guerilla missions to help feed the pigeons.

:) :)

If you like mate - every story is a good 'un!

Blimey, that was a trip down memory lane alright. Found a Right to Party pamphlet from 94 when the CJA was coming in, a Direct Action against Nuclear Weapons booklet, a book of stories from Poll Tax Riot, as well as Muzik mag with 4-page spread of RTS party in Trafalgar Sq in 97.

Also got RTS flyers for the Festival of Resistance in 96, the 97 RTS, the Fiesta for Life against Death on 9.11.01, the Mayday Monopoly guide for 2001 as well as a Sale of the Century leaflet, and Mayday 02. Also found Evading Standards (99), Maybe (spoof Metro, 2000), and Hate Mail (02) plus other bits and pieces.

Now all i need to do is work out how to get it all uploaded - i'm happy to work with someone else to do this, but i would be very reluctant to leave this material with anyone, cos looking thru this lot bought back so many memories, mainly good but some bad, that i don't think the hoarder in me could stand the worry.

i'm really looking forward to seeing your resources when you've got them up and running Bluestreak

well, for the time being it's regular updates on my blog (mixed in with all the other shiny things, waffle, and pictures of whippet puppies) www.londoninflames.blogspot.com but we'll see what happens to it once Crispy explains how clever stuff works.

I think I've got a load of old flyers, posters and leaflets from 95 onwards somewhere, will try and dig them out and scan them at some stage.

yeah, i understand that worry. a copy shop will probably have the sort of scanner that lets you email pics or burn them to disc. do you work in an office with clever photocopiers? cos some of them scan stuff?

i think I have a very rare flyer from a major anti-cja night, (over 600 folk), which included renegade soundwave, etc which i promoted as my uni.

tbh, I was very much involved in much of the 90's stuff, i regret much of it, we took our eye off the ball , eg inequality, housing, welfare, the NHS, etc which are now in crisis.
