Ahhh I understand now! As someone else said, if she contacts the uni and tries to negotiate with them and talk them into it, they may still offer her the place. Fingers crossed that she's happy wherever she ends up though.

No, she did ring and they wouldn't budge. She's going to Newcastle instead. They only wanted 3 As. She's very happy with Newcastle but a bit iffy about the department.

She went for an interview at Cambridge - they didn't want her.

I don't know as much about Oxford, but I suspect that the following would apply to them too... Cambridge would almost certainly have asked for 4As. They give offers of AAA to people who are only studying three subjects (as I was), but where people are studying 4, offers are normally AAAA. They have been known to give out offers of AAAB, but that still wouldn't have helped in this case. There's also the entrance exam, the sample of work you have to provide and the interview to think about... In the case of oxford, I believe you have to provide multiple samples of work rather than just one, and have to undergo multiple interviews rather than just one.

3 or 4As, or even more than that, is not enough to get into Oxford/Cambridge by itself. It's a long, hard and somewhat complicated process to get through, particularly so for Oxford.



Shame that Edinburgh won't budge as I've heard it's good/nice. I don't know anything about Newcastle, but hope it's all cool in the end! I have to say that I have never been entirely sure about the course at Cambridge. It's really analytically based, lots of logic, etc, which is not my strong point... So I understand how it can be daunting to think "yeah, I like the place in general, but what if I don't like the course I'm doing?" Will keep my fingers crossed though.
