Rhubarb. With stem ginger chunks. And vanilla ice cream from the factory round the corner.

Straight apple crumble, not apple with blackberry.

Similar, but I suppose it isn't crumble, would be peach cobbler.

Rhubarb wins with pie, though.

Pie?? Good god man, you can't have rhubarb pie!

Apple and blackberry, then rhubarb, then plain apple. That's the order of all things crumbly. :)

I would have paid you to try and tell that to my grandmother.

Well it would have to be straight apple however there are conditons:

They must be bramleys (and out of my garden til we took the fucker own with a chinsaw last year but it's sprouting again )

There must be cinnamon or apple pie spice in between the apple and the crumble itself.

Naturally it must be home made

It must be served wioth hot home made custard.

Not that I'm fussy.

A pie is something you cut into wedges to eat. Like the rhubarb pie pictured above.

Yours was a lattice tart. Pies are covered. Of course you can get big tarts as well as little ones.

It's quite clearly rhubarb. It's a beautiful, elegant fruit, veg, stalk (?) thing....

Actually - what the fuck is it???

It's a stalk isn't it?

nah, send 'em to me.

i can take a picture of the yummy crumble to show you.

and you can feel proud. :)

Deciding between these three crumbles is like choosing between the sun, moon and stars.

All crumbles are the pinnacle of puddings. Even the subtle pear and almond crumble. Peach crumble is probably the most humble of them all, but I still wouldn't kick it out of bed for crapping on the pillow.

I like the sound of peach crumble and of pear and almond. :)

Any who claims that there is only one true way is missing the point of crumble.

Custard is the wife of crumble, cream the mistress and ice-cream a wanton doxy.

Yoghurt, with the possible exception of greek yoghurt, is perversion.
