That Petrol Emotion

You know, the other day I was listening to the Undertones first album and regretting their quite lacklustre perormance at Endorse it! a couple of years back and pondering why they were bothering and wouldn't TPE be a more interesting band to reform, what with the world having come round somewhat to their ideas about groove and rhythm being just as inmportant as melody etc.

so a big YAY! from me - I'd love to see them again

I really loved them, a great, great band - especially live. I must've seen them at least ten times and they were almost always great (at phoenix they were kinda shonky to be fair). they didn't tail off after Babble at all - third album was a bit of a confused mess but Chemicrazy is a great album despite having a truly appalling cover. They were on fire on that tour - they had a massive rig which they set up on either side of the dancefloor instead of stage front, and they had Bart Simpson T-shirts before anyone really knew who he was.
I don't know why they weren't a lot bigger, they were just awkward and a bit ahead of their time I think.

Yer man Ciaran there, unusually for a drummer, wrote a load of their best songs too. so tell him thanks for that.

i always liked THEM, more than their songs, if that makes sense. They came across as really sound and inventive and smart, but few of the tracks really hit me. I mean, I've chucked myself about to Big Decision like the next man, but never really clicked with the albums.

How queer - I was listening to Abandon only this morning :hmm: I went to see TPE at the Pyramid thing in Southsea in about 1991.

Shout this at him for me: I cut my teeth on a bed of wire!!!1!! I sold my soul for my hearts desire!!!!1!! I SAY ABANDON!"!!12!!2Den na na na na na na!!1!!!"

Ra!

Loved 'em, loved the Undertones (who led me to listen to TPE in the first place) but loathed Steve Mack's hair, because it looked like he'd said to himself "the rest of the guys have sober hairdos. I know, I'll have a twatty haircut to compensate!"

Er yeah. I won't, if you don't mind.

I think they should be our pet slightly obscure 80s band. I'm strangely chuffed that I share a bulletin board with someone who shares an office with a member of TPE. :D

(I'm actually related to someone much better known from 80s music, and know others in real life. But this is more fun, somehow. :D ).

actually, the only time I managed to successfully crowdsurf any distance whilst ripped to the tits on acid was during one of their sets, so can you thank him for that for me as well? :D

I like this idea - and I have met someone who has met missfran, who shares an office with a member of TPE

The thing is, I didn't say "I'm talking about you on the internet", I said "I have a friend who is a fan and they want to know... and said... etc." It looks a bit weird if I keep asking him questions and commenting on gigs :D

there are voices in your head asking you questions about TPE

Shit I was meant to be making a shepherd's pie and have now spent an hour on youtube looking at the old stuff instead. Thems were the days. The opening of Creeping to the Cross still has a goosebump effect....

He says he'll burn you a copy :)

Ask him if he will burn one for me too and if he can put V2 on it as well. My record player is broken and I have a hankering for early TPE now.

Also, didn't they play the Dirty Water not so long ago? I was a bit gutted I missed it but saw a couple of videos on You Tube.

bastard! I have too much to do to be looking at youtube for this!

No! I'm not going to ask him to burn a bunch of CDs with requests on them! You had your chance

Well has he got a spare copy of V2 at least. I have a crappy pressing that was given away with 'sounds'. Last email I ever sent him was about trying to buy one off ebay (I think) so he sort of owes me.

Oh hang on, he thinks there is only one of us (U75) get him to burn MPT and ask him to stick V2 on it (for that other guy) but then burn an extra copy for me.

Sorted.
