That c-nt Lance fucking Armstrong has come out of retirement

I'd imagine that if I was an avid cycling fan (i'm not I find it boring as sin) I'd have a very strong dislike for Lance Armstrong, his story is fairytale like, but as we all know only children believe in those. Whilst he might not have been found guilty of anything beyond all reasonable doubt, the circumstancial evidence really does stack up against him, much like OJ and Michale Jackson.

FWIW, every indication seems to be that if anything, Armstrong is a Democrat who opposed the Iraq war.

I also think Nickh. raises some interesting points, I wouldn't just dismiss him as some here appear to be doing.

Interesting...I read somewhere that he was pal of Dubya (who urged him to run for Texas governor) and that he was also a Repub.

he is a republican.
he's anti-war and pro-life.

what's that got to do with him as a sports person?
he's raising awareness on cancer. rides like a fuckin' demon.

What I never understand is the 'he beat cancer' shit (a) that's a credit to the surgeon not Lance and (b) get back to me when he dies of something else.

He isn't the most personable being on the planet though, is he?

Why should he be? Look at Andy Murray, terrible reputation off court but a fantastic player who I'd quite like to win. It's weird how people seem obsessed with personalities rather than their achievements. Celeb culture has a lot to answer for.

I'm afraid, as a man, I would side with those that know him as a despicable one. As an athelete, regardless of the alleged :D doping, he is incredibly talented.

and what's this bollocks about 'raising cancer awareness' - is there someone somewhere on the entire planet who avidly follows the Tour de France and doesn't know about cancer?

Who is this person because it would save us all an awful lot of Lance Fucking Armstong if we passed the hat around to send this cycling loving clown on a cancer awareness course.

it's about fighting cancer.

he's a survivor - had chemo - brain surgery and beat the world's best in the most famous cycling comp for fuck sakes! and he did it like 7 times in a row.

i prefer him raising awareness than kylie or jade fuckin' goody.

He had cancer, he overcame it, he won the tour de france 7 times in a row. None of us on here know the bloke personally, so it only remains to respect his achievments which, to be fair, are incredible. Seems ridiculously churlish to try and slag him off.

Unless you follow the sport and have witnessed his behaviour over a number of years. Being good at riding a bike, be it drugged or not, doesn't stop you being a cunt.

I do follow cycling very closely and while he may have been an undeniable twat at times (hell I dislike him for riding for the UPS team, sponsored by Nike and on a evil Trek bike) the amount of hate, some of it no more that pure xenophobia on the part of much of the European press, poured in his direction is ridiculous.

Riis and Vireneque deserve to be hated as much as Armstrong IMO. Pantani too.

You're overlooking the fact that Riis and Virenque admitted it, and that Pantani is dead. And that none of them dominated the tour for seven years.

None of this has anything to do with xenophobia as far as I'm concerned. I've always been a Lemond fan. And I used to be an Ullrich fan. And as I've already expained I was an Armstrong fan until the Simeoni incident. I think you'll find that most cycling fans in Britain support good, sportsmanlike riders whatever their nationality. We've pretty much adopted Magnus Backstedt (who's Swedish) as an honorary Brit because he lives in Wales and he's a terrific bloke. And Lance himself used to have legions of fans here. Now his British fan base is mostly youngsters who don't know the history. A visit to the bikeradar.com forum proves that.

As for the French hating him, they have every right to. The Tour is so huge to them it's like the Premier League and the Queen and beer all rolled into one. To do what Lance has done to France you'd have to start a football team full of cheating americans who come top of the league and win the European cup for 7 years straight, cheat on Princess Di and force us all to drink Budweiser in all the pubs. It's a credit to French manners that none of them have ever stepped in the road and punched him in the face. If the Tour was somehow transposed into British culture there would have been blood years ago and all the spectators would have to be behind fences because they'd be lobbing bricks and setting their dogs on him. I think the French have been pretty good sports about the whole thing.

he's a (bad) winner and a bully.
he's thrashed the competition and the italians and the french don't like him. he's american.

still don't make him a cunt.

So you don't think he's a cheat. Hmm.

If he was, would that make him a cunt?

there's alot of talk that he is a cheat.
but until that's proved...

as for a cunt.
he's a highly strung competitor.
you get these characters in every sport - the ones who takes things a little personal and OTT.
he's a character. a figure-head of everything detested in america's win-win culture.
he's good for the sport - and a great example of a fighter.

ruthless winner who is clever or rich enough to avoid the drug tests so just better at it than most pro cyclists:(

I'm agreeing with this, however all the dodgy stuff seems to relate in particular to the issue of doping within cycling. Surely one must suspect any winning cyclist from around the turn of the century as possibly tainted and from what we know of Armstrong well - we must draw our own conclusions but I'm having no trouble with mine.

Then yes he appears to be an bully who has worked against any effort to clean up the sport.

I'll join the OP in his verdict. It'll be interesting to see how he gets in today's races. I hope the testing is far more stringent.

Genius....he's signed for Astana....to avoid legal issues i've leave it at that. But we all remember what happened to their previous team leader Vinko.
