Tesco .. not being nice to suppliers..

I work for Sainsbury's and I can assure you that it is not a good company to work for and they treat their suppliers little better than Tesco. By all means shop there, I don't boycott any other supermarket because I don''t believe that ethical consumerism is possible, but don't shop there under the illusion that you are making a more moral choice by shopping at Sainsbury's than Tesco.

The thing that pisssed me off particularly about Tesco was that they participated in the govenments 'workfare' scheme and didnt back down like other companies after the public backlash. I thought fuck them after that point, couldnt buy anything from them.

Gateway. You've reminded me of Fine Fare before it. With the shitty orange packaging.

Blast from the past there. There's a warehouse up the road from us that was originally owned by macfisheries, then it was taken over by international stores then gateway, then Somerfield and now Bentalls.

All this paying on 120 days and taking money for marketing etc stinks. I remember once supplying a good Continental client who always paid on the due date. They were a stickler for credit notes if the numbers of supplied products did not tally but generally were a pleasure to deal with. On one occasion they came to me asking for a 3% discount if they paid in 15 days! Our accountant didn't see enough benefit so we declined.

My husband says that can't happen. He says:

"They can't take the money, that's impossible, the supplier must give them the money, and if the supplier does that they're fucking stupid."

I think he's being mean but just for clarification: Is that true? Do you just return the money to them? Or do they actually just take the money off you?
Obviously we can say no but then you don't get to supply them anymore. They probably account for about 25-30% of turnover
