Tesco Grocery Delivery

Veg and fruit is one of the main things that's weighing me down, along with sugar, milk, chicken etc.

Can't you ask for stuff with the latest sell-by dates on?

They would give you whatever they give you. I haven;t had too much of a problem with them as I say, but on the odd occasions I have, would just phone up and say that the *whatever* was well on the turn and I would NEVER have picked it for myself etc...and they refund you the cost...but I think if anything they're getting better and better about this (probably because if their policy IS to refund for online deliveries, they're potentially better off getting their shoppers to pick half decent stuff).

I have had more problems with bread being very close to the sell by date, but again, not often.

Also Tesco clubcard points can be saved and redeemed at 4x their face value on a variety of holidays etc (gonna go youth hostelling with mine, for a quarter of the usual price! :D ).

If you do want to collect those to use against their clubcard deals, you're often better off looking for vouchers giving extra points, instead of a cash value.

Does that all make sense? :hmm: :D

Errr...Pigsback and Quidco only offer points/cashback on FIRST Tesco grocery orders cesare :hmm: although you may just have registered anyway (well worth it if you do lots of other shopping online though - although half the time I forget to go through them  )...also Minnie, you probably need to register with both using the same email addy iyswim.

Yep I guessed that (ta anyway though) but as I'm currently missing a washing machine, freezer and microwave I thought it would be worth registering heh

Btw, I just read that Routemaster thread and have been in stitches for the past few minutes :D:D:D

No, I don't have a clubcard. Is this order going to work considering I've gone to Tesco via Quidco (which I registered work email)

I think I registered with Quidco at my work address and I'm registered with Tesco at my home email :(

Hmmm...not sure if you'll get your Quidco points then...but you might?

Actually, I'm not sure that that's true with Quidco...I've had cashback on a fair few different things and very much doubt I used the same email addy for all of them... :hmm:

well that's what I do. Can't see what the problem is :o

think warehouse scale:D it takes you an additional minute to fish thre rows back for the newer items. Scale that up. A minute has become half hour and three rows have become thirty.

Hey maybe they do have the option to do so. But the time is money thing applies well tightly in logistics and I'm pretty sure they don't have that option

e2a

people fucking up the rotation is really annoying for the shelf stacker btw :D :p

they should have the good stuff stored separately in the back :o

I always take the latest date but leave it all nice and neat with the nearest date at the front :p

they don't wait till a shelf is bare to re-stock it. nearly empty shelve must be filled up, or the place looks untidy and desolate. So in practise I have had to remove the older stuff and put it on the floor, shove in the new stuff at the back then replace said old uns. It's fucking up the rotation.

Having said that I am guilty of the offense when it comes to milk. I likes my milk as fresh as possible

If there was an automatic discount depending on how stale something was I wouldn't mind, but i don't see why I should pay the same for something that has be mouldering on the shelf for an extra few days.

Minnie (and anyone else), when you get an online delivery, it's not like there's some guy with a trolley at your local tesco - it all comes from a huge, vast, massive hangar type warehouse. It's like that bit in Monsters Inc, with all conveyor belts and stuff.

aaargh, I can't seem to get my account details to deliver to b/f's address. It just keeps defaulting to my address.

I think my mum does. She certainly did when I was living at home anyway.

Sometimes the substitutions they give are bizarre and confounding. And sometimes they substitute salad for a cabbage

I think delivery is about a fiver.

They point out any substitutions and you don't have to accept them.

Regarding being on the forth floor - Occado will take your bags to the kitchen regardless. Don't know about Tesco.

This is the one I found most common, though I did ring up and complain that I bought two loaves and the sell buy date was the day after delivery, which I felt was bit unfair.

Good bread has about 5 days when delivered to local shops. I would think anything below 4 days would be giving you old produce, which is why I said I don't think they are that good on bread, I prefer to buy bread where I can check the date.

But I do have a bit of an addiction to really fresh bread, I know when its delivered where I live and tend to buy it the day it arrives. Can't beat a good "I Love Toastie" Loaf...why they named the bread that I have no idea, worst.name.ever.

Well I've just received my first Tesco delivery.

The following products were not available

Finest Mango :(
Fairtrade Thai Jasmine Rice :(

and a couple of other things

They substituted Twinings Jasmine Green Teabags (20s) - £1.20 for Twinings Englishbreakfast (100) - £3.37 :eek::D

Stupid me accidentally ordered 4 pints of skimmed milk instead of semi-skimmed :o

Do they charge you for the difference and did he bring it up to the fourth floor?

They ask you first if you want the substitution. I said might as well, so you're charged. Obviously they don't if you don't want it.

2 of the kids outside playing footie helped carry some up and the delivery guy brought last lot up. By the time I got to front door, b/f was just opening it ready to come and help me. :D

Didn't have time to give him a tip 'cos he just scarpered downstairs saying he was blocking someone else trying to get out

Always choose no substitutions on the options page

Instead of 10 tins of organic red kidney beans they sent me 10 tins of "chilli" flavoured beans in sugar water

Also I asked for a range of green -> yellow bananas and they were all green

My nursery had trouble with this, their substitutions became ridiculous and unusable. More annoyingly they knew someone who worked down there that said the things were in stock, it's just the packers can't be arsed to fetch them if a sub is closer.
I'm told they stick in the stuff that is about to go out of date too, but that is just hearsay.

I did pick "no substitutions" with the fresh stuff but not with stuff like cleaning and tinned stuff.

I'm sure I picked tins of kidney beans but obviously not, as I ended up with the ones you have to soak overnight :D

Didn't order much fresh stuff but I did order a few ready-made meals for the freezer. Will have a look at dates and see what I got and get back to you :D

Just had a look. I got delivery on 30th. Everything in the freezer has a date of 3rd or 4th July. I got some already cooked chicken pieces for b/f to nibble on when I'm at work and that's dated 6th July.

I think I would be too much of a control freak to let someone else pick my food. Plus I don't rate Tescos stuff.

A lot of the stuff I was getting was heavy stuff that I'm sick of carrying like 2 bags of sugar, spuds, 4 tins of beans, 4 tins of tomatoes, few packs of spaghetti, few bags of rice, 12 loo rolls (not heavy, but don't leave you much free hand space to carry anything else), washing powder, kitchen and bathroom cleaners etc, tinned salmon and tuna etc.

Other bits and bobs included frozen peas and frozen corn, bananas and apples etc., all of which were in perfectly fine condition

I ask for no subs for anything

I like to get the deliveries because I loathe and despise shopping in supermarkets, well, shopping full stop really. I only get the fruit and veg if desperate - otherwise I get all that from the local grocers. It's alright :)

fruit and veg is heavy. My arms are fucked from doing a big shop a few months ago. Thought I'd just pulled a muscle but shoulder won't seem to fix itself which is why I'm doing this. Trying to give it a chance to heal

Fair enough Minnie - one of the main reasons I get it from the grocers is cos it's a lot cheaper and I get to pick it myself. I have ordered it on delivery, and it's been fine - not old stuff, about average really.

Gone the docs about the arm?
