Tents

bear in mind getting dressed in a morning is gonna be a fucking nightmare though. that is very very low at 85cm high.

defininitely! I spent five nights using a 2man colemans tent, and trying to get dressed/undressed was a right pain in the arse.

I can see I'll have to make sure I do some "proper" camping most years as well as my "home from home" expeditions ....
Having a car to cart my stuff does rather skew things ... I think my new tent weighs about 21 kilos - and I'm resisting sending off for the optional carpet.

I am so glad I've now got a tent I can stand up in. In my old eurohike I used to have to take the mattress out when I got dressed or I was rolling all over the place. :o

Nothing worse than cramp in a tent.

Had a week last year in what's laughingly described as a "2 man tent".

You'd have a heck of a job getting intimate in it ;)

Great fun for 25 quid though .... it's now my emergency tent - though I'm tempted by something intermediate - sized for shorter trips ... it'll depend on how much hassle my big tent is - I bought it partly because of its potential high speed of erection.... but it came with no less than 72 pegs

Anyway, back to proper camping ....

he loved it

I couldn't camp in it, or rather I wouldn't chose to as I like to be able to stand up. But then I have a car, and don't have to carry it around with me when I go to festies

He does, and doesn't have a bad word to say about it :)

I asked him and he said no he didn't mean that one :D there was me trying to be helpful :D

but my recommendation stands :)

(says the woman that has a tent she can stand up in in the bedroom and main bit :o)

Didn't Bees have some huge 3 man* affair back in glasto er... 2004? (wild guess). I remember getting drunk and wanting to cook in it (lucky I was kicked out because I actually did knock the stove over I think)... :o

*When I say 3 man I mean 3 room.

North Face tents are extremely good... Cost a lot though.

Actually I was cooing over someone in our Glasto camp who turned up with one of these:

Lovely bit of kit. A small 2 man tent really, but rear and front entrances, well finished, mesh ventilation everywhere etc etc.

And then I got home and saw that it's nigh on £300. Blimey. I'd be scared to leave it unattended at a festie.

With that in mind put in word for our trusty Blacks 3 man tunnel tent and the high street. Survived over 5 hard years now, with the obligatory fat bloke falling on top, various overenthusiastic campfire burns, torrential downpours and ridiculous mud levels. Huge 'porch' storage area, three big entrances and a genuinely generous sleeping area for 2/3. It's been pretty much the perfect festival and campsite tent for both of us, a manageable weight at just over 6 kilos as well. I'd still be hard pressed to find a better balanced replacement, and I've gazing over tent porn as much as the next one. For about £75 quid iirc - Blacks and the high street ain't all bad ime. Think the Ed and Eme actually had the same tent too (a Lomond)

I've still got the uberdome, it's bloody great :)

Don't remember any cooking in it though :hmm: :D

This is my current tent, Im very pleased with it. :) the extra little bit of height has made all the difference to me in terms of getting dressed, and the porch area is plenty big enough. Very light, very waterproof, and plenty big enough for one! Three would be quite cosy I think, but the relatively large porch would probably take a bit of the sting out of it should you need to be in the tent during the day.

(Im a bit cross it's now £20 cheaper though!)

I just got a Torino 300 3 man tent (room for me, my kit and a bit of space to move around in, I buy 3 man tents for this reason) for only £39.99 with a £20 discount at Millets only this afternoon. It's not too heavy, can withstand 2000mm of rain (whatever that means), has enough room to sit up straight (I'm 6 foot 3), taped seams and comes with a detachable groundsheet for the porch area and a decent mud flap. And all for only £40 as well.

Climate Camp and the Earth First! Summer Gathering are now confirmed for me.

Hoorah!

IM a bit of a camping whore....:o
I have a 4 man tent

We're getting one of these:

My friend distributes them and we're getting it dead cheap (circa £200). They're so cool and look great and have so much room. We figure for long festies etc, we can sleep in it and use the van for cooking, eating, socialising etc, before retiring to a nice clutter-free bedroom.

Wow, that's gorgeous but you will be mistaken for a fucking hippy. :p

I'd also like a bell tent (hyuk hyuk) but I think I'll be getting the vango. Hopefully I'll be able to utilise a friend's staff discount at a big local store but if not I think I can cope with £65.
