Tempted to buy 1kg of goji berries

did you recommend them to me?

I read about them in the paper

Possibly not, I just bang on about them from time to time. Weirdly, I'm getting less sleep than ever, yet feeling more alert, not sure if it's the goji berries or something more complex....

Could be your spider-sense?

Can we come and hide in this thread whilst they're having "men talk" in the ULH?

I've actually not used them that much as I'm not a porridge fan and I have to be in the mood to eat them raw on their own.

Maybe I'll chuck em in a smoothie though. Do you have to soak them first or chuck 'em straight in? :o

See mrs quoad's post about soaking them in orange juice for a couple of hours ^^^
Actually, you don't need to see mrs quoad's post, as he just recommended soaking them in orange juice for a couple of hours :D

And Slow Hands, have you ever eaten goji berries? I hear they get rid of men problems. Shall I post you some, I've just ordered LOADS :) (Or bring 'em down next weekend maybe?)

Ah well, now I won't need to start that thread asking for advice about solving my "men problems"...

And I think I have had them, in a chewy bar.

Had what in a chewy bar, men, or goji berries?
They have lots of 'specialist' bars in London don't they? I went to a 'gay' bar when I was last there. Everyone was very friendly :)

It is safe in ULH you know, if a bit meltdowntastic right now.

Anyway, goji berries, never had them, but might give them a whirl.

Although I don't have 'men problems', not being a man or having a man.

This is why Gojo berries give you more nergy , Winkybag:

[Isolation and purification of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides and its antifatigue effect]

Department of Hygiene, Hubei Medical University, Wuhan 430071, China.
A purified component of lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP-X) was isolated from lycium barbarum L. by DEAE ion-exchange cellulose and sephacryl gel chromatography. LBP-X was tested on five different doses (5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 mg.kg-1.d-1) in mice. The results showed that LBP-X induced a remarkable adaptability to exercise load, enhanced resistance and accelerated elimination of fatigue. LBP-X could enhance the storage of muscle and liver glycogen, increase the activity of LDH before and after swimming, decrease the increase of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) after strenuous exercise, and accelerate the clearance of BUN after exercise. The dosage of LBP-X 10 mg.kg-1.d-1 was the best amount among the five tested doses.

People on Warfarin should be cautious about useing Goji berries. Evidence is weak, but Goji berres may inhibit the effects of warfarin.

People who have problems with the solanacea family of plants (tomatoes, peppers, potatos, aubergine) should be aware that Goji berries are in the same family.

It's a good and useful medicine, used in many different ways. Don't worry too much about using it as a food: lots of foods are also medicinal. Mustard, rocket, cress are all active in the lungs and urinary system. Grapefruit and broccoli enhance certain elimination pathways in the liver. Buckwheat increase the integrity of the blood vessel walls. Turmeric can thin the blood. Pumpkin seeds are high in minerals essental for good health in the male reproductive organs. Tomatoes contain a compound that helps us to fight cancer. Shitake mushrooms regulate and heal the immune system. And so on. Eat well to be well :) Goji berries are a good and useful addition.

The evil dwarf McKeith also sells chewy goji bars :)

The sainsbury's goji juice, FWIW, is about 20% goji berries. And lots of other stuff.

Yacon is superb stuff.

No, but it goes a fair old way

I soak it overnight and eat it at breakfast.

Ooh, that reminds me, I was going to post on the breakfast thread.

i ate loads one time and had the farts and yeah it is quite expensive but there is a yacon syrup which is cheaper so maybe i will get some of that too

how about macca? any fans?

Where the fuck do you guys live? :D
How come I never, never come across any of these crazy miso/ yucan/ gojo type food stuffs? Is it cos I've never set foot in a Holland and barrat? But seriously, how do you encounter all these weird foods?

And which would you recommend to someone whose diet is pretty, well, average (meat, veg, chips, fruit of the apples and oranges type, sanwiches and curry). Oh and pizza sometimes. What would be the best new food to try?

Sorry for minor thread derail.

Well I read about them in a newspaper.

Do you have newspapers where you live? :D

i first saw gojis when i was looking for yacon, i first saw yacon when i was at a seasonal organic community project type fair thing

claire the easiest thing you can include in your diet would be pulses really, and they are good for you. miso soup is a novelty for me too, and im staunchly proud never to have shopped in holland and barratt
give me a pretentious seasonal organic community project type fair thing anyday :)

I never set foot in a Holland & Barret, unless it's to look at the Ker-azy prices and compare them to those in the place where I shop.

Some towns won't have a hippy dippy wholefood shop, but many do. Usually, if they don't have what you want, they will order it in for you.

Most of my food discoveries come from seeing them in the shop and asking about them, or from pals telling me about them, or from my own interest and research.

BTW miso can be made from barley or rice as well as soya.

Hmmm well from the above I obviously:
1. Don't attend enough hippy dippy organic fairs
2. Don't go in the whole food shop in Headingley, cos I did once and it almost broke the bloody bank buying a jar of peanut butter and some yogurt
3. Don't read newspapers :D

I will however try this miso. Cos I like soup. I also like dahl, and that's lentils. And I may even buy some goji berries next time I see some :D

goji berries cheaper from the chinese supermarket, they work well in an apple pie similar to raisins i suppose,
slightly over hyped as a super food,

I must confess I bought a tin of the McKeith ones first but got some in a cello pack from a local health food shop.
I usually put some in the pan when I am stewing some apples, they plump up and are really nice with the apple as a desert,
