temping can suck

ooo what do you have to do to earn the high rate of pay (or get offered the high paying jobs) with an agency? I've had excellent references from every position i've been in and a good past cv. But they've all been about the same rate..... :(
I just told them I expected the higher rate and thought I deserved it (not in so many words, but pretty much). They agreed. You might have to push for it. Not sure you can get a raise while in a job, as obviously the employer has agreed to pay a certain amount, but when you're between jobs it would be worth ringing them up and telling them you want to be put forward for better-paid positions. If you've got good experience and references you should be in with a chance. Just push them a bit - if you're a good worker they shouldn't mind.

I'm temping doing data entry-type shit and co-ordinating letter send-outs to customers. It is fecking dull in the extreme but £8 an hour is nice and gives me my much needed and greatly valued office experience. Can't complain, although I may be by the end of the week.

I'm registering with an agency and they require my nationality.

I'm Irish- French and I can only choose one. Do I choose one of those two or just put down British?

They'll want proof that you have eligibility to work in the UK, where a UK passport or birth certificate will do. They don't accept National Insurance cards, at least my agency didn't. I'm not sure but maybe all EU citizens have this eligibility.

*kicks temp for being shit*

"this job is doing my head in" - yes, yes I have no doubt it is, but its actually not that bad at all (by temp standards), you have your own office, with access to the internet and can play music to your hearts content

i just got a call from coby philips saying i ahven't paid them back for the overpayment  they've never given me any work
and she tried to argue with me that she'd spoken to me last week etc

commented on their shit organisation and asked them to remove me from their files, grrrr
do u think they will?

working as a driver for blue arrow i slipped and injured myself at work last week.
filled in an accident form at the depot and limped home in a lot of pain.
told the agency and blokey just said let us know when you are fit for work.

emailed twice last week and called on friday to be told by his mate that i wasn't re-booked for this week, and he'd look into it but be ready to go to work on monday but don't actually go in.
no word today, i presume they have fuked me off as i had an injury.
as the bloke originally said it would be 'ongoing work probably until xmas'

i know agencies are stitch up merchants and usually have their bums covered but anyone ever been able to hold them to account?
and should i give them another chance or go for it on the injury front?
raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Adecco v Brook Street

When I moved to Oxford I signed up with Adecco and Brook Street on the same day. I was only after something to pay the rent for a while. Adecco were delighted with my test scores on their 'can you use a computer?' test. So were Brook Street but only Brookie got me jobs.

why is it that i don't get any work from my agency when i most need it

can't afford a week without work... my cards don't work FFS!

Cash a cheque in your own name, but date it next month - they never ever notice ;)

Its my top survival tip for students.

Temping does suck indeed! If you can really be arsed though, you can get very good money being a labourer on a building site, I was getting £12ph for sweeping puddles of water up in the pissing rain :D

*pondering what SBZ wrote... the crisp eating git!* :)

I thought you had put a little French é on one of those, but it was just a bit of dried on sneeze :(
