Tell me about waxing

You are talking to the person who had one leg waxed in Debenhams beauty parlour, and then went home.....like a million plasters ripped off at once. The waxed leg was mottled and red for days afterwards. Sod that for a game of soldiers.

That was me but with my underarms - never have I felt such pain!

I used to shave but stopped because the hair would grow extremely quickly and even thicker than before! needless to say, I got the nastiest rash from the hairs breaking the skin. I used to epilate with this plucking machine I got in 1998, which was just as painful as having a tattoo done on me! and besides, the hairs would grow back thicker, again, and become ingrown, etc. Not good. So I decided to do some DIY waxing. I have been doing it for a few years now. I am a extremely hairy person, due to suffering from PCOS I guess, so I wax my armpits, arms, legs, tummy and toes. I have gone to beauty salons for the waxing but at £27 a pop (leg wax and bikini) it's just something I'll do when I know I can't be arsed to do it myself.

Im sorry but leg waxing DOSE NOT HURT ffs.
It dosent hurt, but it dose feel abit annoying, like a pinch.
er minkie waxing maybe be a different storey.

personally i would never make another human being wax me, how gross is that for them?
this is really easy to use - and maybe i say it dosent hurt cus this is the only sort of wax i use and its warm so maybe it opens up the pours/makes it hurt less.

Yes it bloody well does hurt. I remember trying out those wax strip things and I couldn't pull it off my leg, it got stuck and it ripped skin off and that fucking hurt.
You've just reminded me that I've lost my epilator...

The one thing I would say about waxing is that if you go to have it done in a salon, get a recommendation.

I used to do home waxing with Louis Marcel strips, which have been discontinued, and the Veet ones are rubbish, so I'm back to shaving now.

But when I was living abroad and spent a lot of time on the beach/lounging by the pool I went for salon waxes. The problem was that many of the staff in the salons were just imported cheap labour from the Philippines or wherever, and they weren't necessarily properly trained beauticians. A couple of times I had girls who ripped off the strips and got most of the hair, but them 'mopped up the stragglers' by ripping strips any which way. And I got some really painful ingrowing hairs on my bikini line.

So now, I'd say always, always, get a recommendation and go to someone who knows what they're doing.

Btw, a long shot, I know, but can anyone recommend a waxer in Manchester? :hmm:

I have a full bikini wax about every 3 weeks. I like it because I do a lot of spinning classes and I just feel cleaner if I don't have any hair there.
I hate having my legs waxed, tried it once and never again.

Just popped in to say...omg how painful is bloody threading?????

I had legs and bikini done at Christmas and was going to have eyebrows down, costs next to nothing, takes five seconds and I dont need to go near them for a couple of months....they talked me into having them threaded instead...new salon, thought I would try it out as close to home....well, I have no idea how it works, but I spent what felt like ten minutes dragging my own eye lid down so she could torture me with cotton....I could feel heat from it and the sensation of crunching the fine hairs made me nauseous...no idea if she was just crap, her bikini wax was rubbish to be fair and I wont be going back....but why would anyone choose threading over waxing...??

I get my bikini line done in summer, I don't find it particularly painful at all, and I get a Brazilian :D I think the lady who does mine is really good, she's very quick and it 'smarts' more than anything else I suppose. The lotion they put on afterwards is loooovely.

Dont do your toes. My girlfriend likes to do my big toes and it hurts like hell. She also does a bit on my lower back which doesnt hurt at all unless the wax is to hot.

I'm a waxing virgin too, but I'm lucky enough to come from a fairly hairless family.

I only need to shave my legs every three or four days before I start feeling prickly and for some really strange reason I have never grown underarm hair. Not a single one. It's freaky.

Worth trying hair removal cream if the idea of waxing really freakazoids you out? Obviously it'll get less painful as you "get used to it". Helps if someone does it right too i would think.... hairs being pulled out in the right way, not against the grain, like.

If shaving doesn't last long enough, maybe it's worth braving the pain and giving it a shot :)

mmm hair can be hot though... :o :hmm:

I'm not especially hairy so I imagine that's why I can cope with waxing. Every month I have my under arms waxed which for me doesn't hurt at all. I'm being very genuine about this however I used to have my eyebrows waxed and I hated it cos it hurt so much. It seems I'm very sensitive in that area. I now have my eyebrows threaded which still bloody hurts but I like the finished look and it only takes a few minutes.

I get legs/bikini done a few times per year and whilst they both hurt it's not the worst pain and it's over so quickly. I also love the clean feeling that I get with waxing. At least once a year before a beach holiday I get my legs, bikini, underams, eyebrows done on the same day. First time I did that I went home to bed feeling like a plucked chicken and took some painkillers. Now I take them before I get it done.

so reckon im gonna go for a bikini wax tomorrow...what's the deal here then? Apparently, at the place a colleague recommended, she was instructed to take off her knickers for her wax... is this normal?

Depends on how much you're having waxed off.

I got the feeling my colleague didnt have much of a choice in the matter: it all got obliterated. :D

:D

If it's just a trim, they normally protect your knickers with a piece of kitchen roll type stuff and just move em around a bit to get to the parts you want waxed.

That's what I thought was the protocol but my colleague specifically said that she was instructed to take her knickers off... dunno how i feel about doing that to wax between the legs...

May aswell take the plunge though, winter fuzz has to be done away with! :o:D

Just hope im not mistaken about the taking the knickers off though: dont want to jump the gun and place myself in the room sans strides and underwear like a dick when it's not necessary:o

I've never been asked to take em off, but then I've never had it done in Spain. Mebbe that's standard there????

You could try doing it yourself?

i've always used hair removal cream. ive tried waxing myself and it was a horrible, patchy, sticky mess. Not something i shall be attempting again.

Veet strips are easy to use, and don't make a mess. Hardly any residue, and you get a little cloth thing to get rid of the tiny amount there is.

I've been waxing (armpit/bikini line) pretty much from the start of my hairyness. I'm used to the pain, so it's no biggie.

I do it myself at home. I shave my lower legs though, I just cant' be bothered to wax them...

p.s. if you wax at home, to remove the stickiness, use baby oil (most waxing strips come with wipes anyway)

I think I have a slightly confused attitude to depilation. I shave my legs when I can be bothered, never really touch pits/downstairs, but wax my eyebrows obsessively :D

well now, that was indeed ver pleasant! Wax on, wax off and now smooth and hairless as the day I was born! Didnt even hurt as much as i was expecting it to. The therapist pacified my initial nerves by complimenting my elephant tattoo just as she ripped off the first strip.

Oh and i was given these little knickers to wear to protect thy modesty.

Clicker, which salon did you have the bad experience in?

Did you find a better place?

I am actually considering going for my first brazilian this year, I'm still undecided, it's gonna fuckin HURT.
