Tell me about ridged grill pans

i got a tesco 'finest' cast iron griddle pan for a tenner a while ago. use it for steak, bacon, halloumi, kebabs...nom

its great. weighs a fucking ton and gets evenly hot all over. good stuff.

ive also got that square ikea one. i use it mostly for pizzas (upside down :)).

Lord Camomile

Go for the Muji one. It is cast iron and with a width of 36.5 mm it is bigger than the largest of my skewers. My longest ones are 30mm and I have some shorter ones at 28mm. As you know 30mm is a foot on old money. Cast iron is essential.

Enamelled and wooden handled griddles are a waste.

As long as it's thick and cast iron it'll almost certainly be fine and dandy - it's one of those areas where cheap pans are usually very good. Go for one with a metal handle if possible - it's much easier to put those straight in the oven if the smoke gets too much.

Buy a couple of cheap cast iron griddles if anything - once you've cooked on them, you'll probably want another to cook an extra set of items simulataneously.

I usually only use mine for steak once a year, and salmon steak (not much more often), and the odd aubergine, but I did bacon on it on Saturday morning and was well impressed

I only did the bacon on it cos the grill pan needs washing and I couldn't be arsed

i have the tesco one too, again bought when it was half price , its usually £20. its brilliant, as johnny says, it heats up nice and evenly, retains it heat well, and is nice and heavy, but no so heavy that its difficult to use. i also have an ancient hand me down one that goes over 2 hobs but its so heavy i hardly use it.

Can't see your pic, but I have one of these le Creuset ones bought in TKMaxx for £15. It's really good, heats evenly.

Are these Le Creuset ones non-stick? It's hard to tell from the photos. I'm after an iron one that's actually iron.
