Tell me about Pavement

Pavement rule...for nothing else than the line about the Smashing Pumpkins in "Range Life" which is still one of my favourite smmery songs.

Pavement are absolutely ace. Crooked Rain is probably my fave, and maybe a good one to start with as Slanted can be quite "difficult" for the uninitiated.

I used to love Pavement but never made it to any of their gigs...I would do as others have suggested and start with 'slanted and enchanted' and if your anything like me you will play it to death....gosh I remember where I was and what I was wearing when I 1st heard them on a old BFs mix tape...:)

I'm sure they were supporting someone, but I'm damned if I can remember who. Sonic Youth?
I think I saw them twice there: 92 and 95 (I think). 92 they were supporting Mudhoney, 95 they were headlining.

I saw them at Brixton Academy in about 01 or maybe 02 or even 00, possibly even 99 - God, the memory's going - it was their last ever gig anyway. Well good it was, and some of the tracks are on the Slow Century dvd.

A couple of years ago i read an article about what they are all upto now, only about half are still making music. The guitarist with the curtains stated that Malkmus split the band up cos he wanted to work with better musicians:(

It was late '99, I'd just gone to uni in Bournemouth and had to come back to London for it - muchos glad I did! :)

I'll join you in the old corner, I went to the Bristol gig of that tour.

I can't remember much about it though, I think I did some magic mushrooms which was a bit dumb.

EIGHT years ago! Wow time flies. Who was the support band? That was who I kind of went to see but all I reall remeber about the night is being offered the huge backdrop that they were throwing away.
Don't think I saw them in their heyday but then again I was much more into other things like Superchunk and Archers of Loaf, Dinosaur and Sebadoh.

did you go to Bournemouth? didn't know that :)

Yeah, was down that neck of the woods for three or so years - lived in a hotel above the Odeon in my first year, Charminster in the 2nd and Winton in the 3rd. Happy days :)

What was the name of the rock club near Asda? Spent a few drunken nights there :D

I was at the last gig too. Wasn't it announced onstage? So no-one knew until the night...

Yeah, Stephen had handcuffs attached to his mic stand and somewhere near the end of the gig said something like "This is what it's like being in a band" whilst shaking them vigorously!

And afterwards they were denying it saying he said "This is what it's like being in England"

changed its name all the time - when I first went there back in 19xxxxx it was called (good grief) Zonkers :D

may have been the Hot House when you were there. Most of my mates still down there liv in Winton / Charminster.
Did you ever see any of Andy Nazer's bands - Sludgefeast? Anti? Bad Penny? The reformed Self Abuse?

Last time I went there it was called The Villa! :D

No, can't say I did...

Decent bands only started playing there once I'd left Uni  Have occasionally gone back when a decent bands played - went back for the F'lips a few years ago and ended up in one of their animal costumes on stage with them! :D

I'm pretty sure I knew beforehand from Domino as I wasn't going to hang around and see them.
