Also have you looked at idea of "Short Life" housing?

Do not know what area of country you are. Councils and private owners can allow short term use of buildings they own for other groups. This ensures they are kept secure and safe until needed for redevelopment etc.

It does mean that you do not own. However its cheaper option as you manage the building for a period not have to raise funds to buy.

My experiences with them over the last few years, and the behaviour of several of their members.
(very short version: rape, fraud, harrassment. Or, as womens aid and my solicitor put it, 'co-operative abuse'. And those in rr who were aware but not directly involved 'turning a blind eye' and helping cover it up/keep it quiet)

sorry if i'm seeming hard on their fluffy groovines. They're a fairly big trigger for me and the anniversary of one of the chunks of ! is coming up. And i still can't get my head round the half of it.

No need to apologise. All I knew about them was the experiences of one particular co-op. Unfortunately sounds all too typical of many radical groups inability to deal with abuse...
