TEFL advice needed. Please I need some help!

I did my CELTA part time and I absolutely loved it. I would really recommend it... it took about 3 months all in, which I preferred as it meant I really spent time on my lesson plans and they were all spaced out over the 3 month period, with mostly the same students, so you could really build on your teaching.

i think some particular countries really specify CELTA certs, but others are less bothered. depends where you really want to work. check that out first and then decide. But, I do recommend it just as a really good course anyway.

To be bluntly honest, in Asia, they don't really give two fucks whether you've got a CELTA/TEFL certificate, they just want to see a Degree.

Same in Mexico to a point.

I knew a couple of EFL teachers out there. Neither had TEFL or CELTA, both did mostly small group corporate work and the odd class in language schools. It seemed that making the right contacts was the key. Start off in a langugae school, find your feet and then hustle for freelance was their approach.

I'm not sure either had a work permit either.

If you fit the cultural stereotype they're after (white, British, well spoken, well presented and so on..) you'll be able to find work if you want it in many places. Not just EFL teaching, but I've known a couple of people end up working in real estae, journalism etc. You would be in a very good blagging position in a lot of places where your cultural capital provides prestige (however wrongly) for the local rich folk.

I can't comment on Mexico but it's true to a point here in Indonesia.
EF Indonesia have a rep for not getting the correct permits and that can mean serious trouble for the teacher concerned including gaol time and/or large fines.

Where ever you go teaching make bloody sure you have all the paperwork right before you go.
