I hate it. Joyless, charmless, soulless, funkless 4 to the 4 toss that I only used to be able to stand when I was battered and now can't stand at all. It's just.... UGLY
you've obv never experienced the joy of stompin along with a crowd of thousands of munters doing the techno-2-step to some London Acid City

I can't believe how much I can agree with you on this thread :hmm:

I don't think that the people who voted for techno realise or remember what it's like at techno parties, sitting in a freezing cold warehouse or field at 7 in the morning waiting for a lift home with a bunch of hippies on drugs dancing to helicopter noises

Thats what you're voting for people!!

wthout disco there wouldnt be techno!so both for me i love techno in all its guises but like to drop some disco bout 9am sundaymorning puts a smile on faces1:)

Don't push your luck

But it's not about it being passe. It's about the fact that it hasn't changed at all, and is just ugly

you don't really hear that kind of Techno out at squat parties these days. unless it's Munt.

it's all washing machine techno or stuff thats got a bit of acid in it but the 303's aren't screaming like they used to.

if you do hear it, chances are it was made in the 90s :D

Aye. I always liked Laurent Garnier's crude enough rule-of-thumb that proper techno connects somehow with the arse.

Oh, and techno over disco, because of enduring love for so many rough but wonderful records. Nothing wrong with good, even great disco, but I prefer those moments of electronic warmth and that sweet melancholy.

Good techno is better than bad disco; good disco is better than bad techno.

The best techno and disco is some of the greatest music ever made; the worst techno and disco is some of the shittest music ever made.

Life doesn't get much better than seeing a DJ like Jeff Mills or Derrick May when they are on form, in a good venue, with a good crowd, on good pills. But... there is a special level of hell where there is always plodding, predictable, souless, joyless techno pounding a lifeless crowd of shaved headed blokes who've taken too many drugs just to make the experience bearable.

I'm sure the disco experience was comparable in the late 70s/early 80s, except bad disco is excruciatingly cheesy rather than boringly pounding, and the blokes had too much hair and wore flares rather than combats.

good post. :)

But El Jefe was talking about shitto London Acid Techno, you wally!
:D

Techno and disco are both great - I prefer one over the other depending on my mood

I don't like techno much either. I'm not as scathing as jeff, but you expected that. There are some blinding tracks in techno history, and it has some ace 30 second chunks, but as a genre it's probably one of my least favourite.

I'm not a massive disco fan either, but where it goes right, it goes R-I-G-H-T!
