You are sort of right in thinking where I am coming from..I do believe that in a general sense, not a "pigeonhole this genre" sense that music made using technology can be classed as techno - simply by definition..
i think not many people have this definition of techno, that's why a lot of people are disagreeing.

I liek Techno, and I like the stuff the gets played at cyberdog (along with the psy) is that tekno?

In that case, all music is techno.

there was certainly a distaste for much early house/techno for many in London's hardcore scene - rightly or wrongly much electronic music was seen as too gay/white for some to follow.

Which is bizarre, seeing as techno was invented by black people.

i know, but they were American and black. And gay to boot.

No excuse of course, but there was a similar attitude in the black music scene in the US as well. Think early hip hop as the respectable dance music for straight black males in a similar era. Or even the reaction of the deep funk mob to their camper disco counterparts.

I'm not aware of the original techno bods being gay. House was very much originally a gay thing though.

Sorry, I was more talking the original perception of house/techno (to parapharase some wrongheadedness of the time - that funny club music for gayers) rather than specifics.

WTF is tekno? I just assumed that was a twatty kewl internetz spellingz rather than a different style

4/4 dance music using a 909 kick drum and wibbly bits on top. It's the same bloody music anyway, whether its Jeff Mills or Chris Liberator behind the decks, in spite of what some po faced fuckers try and say round here :p

bollocks. it's like saying Slayer and Thin Lizzy are the same because they're both metal bands.

I thought this was just going to be about correct spelling :o What's the recommended listening for both so I can know what the feck you're on about?

Naaaah, Leftfield were prog house originally and The Prodigy were hardcore. Distinctly different from techno IMO.
leftfield proghouse originally?

not when I saw them playing live in 95, and open up's techno IMO. Did prog house even exist then?

prog house pffft... I feel soiled even typing the name:p ;)

Prog house originated around 93/94 iirc. Song of Life etc is prog house.
song of life is prog house therefore I must like prog house... sorry does not compute:p ;)

guess you're prob right that some of leftfields early output could be classed as prog house, guess that was part of what made them so good was that they effortlessly crossed genres. I'll stick to my techno label, though definately not purist techno;)

if it goes boof boof boof boof repeatedly. i don't like it.

i thought that was happy hardcore though.

*hangs up raving shoes in shame*

"But 'Release The Pressure' wasn't really even a club track," says Paul. "I'm sure everybody would have called it Progressive House if it had been a rock record. The way Progressive House has suddenly given a name to the sound we've had for two years is absurd. We liked it better when it didn't have a name. Which adds a rub of irony to the release of their new single, "Song Of Life". It’s a driving, dubby and dead classy record. It’s everything Prog House should be.

:p

I like both..Techno please my ears more.I love the layers in techno and the progression in the music..I only really listen to hard tek/tekno/whatever when in rave/squat party enviroments and I really do enjoy stomping to it when im raving :) .When I go to parties I go to dance, but prefer to dance to the really hard stuff.I've tried listening to tekno on the tube sober and I cannot do it..although I do sometimes play it loud in the mornings.. :)

I wouldn't consitute acid techno as tekno (like free party music),but it is all much of a muchness sometimes..

now that's what I call a bump...:D

btw blagsta's still wrong no matter how many quotes he finds to undermine me I refuse to accept leftfield as prog house.:p;)

Techno

Tekno - is that just spelt wrong !

Yeah, good bumping action there. :D

Didn't realise that different spellings of techno/tekno had different meanings...

I'm well into techno but there is a lot of boringtek in all the subgenres. As there are gems in all of them too.

ATM I'm quite into tech house, and have always liked the funkier and harder techno's too :D
