Well perhaps I overstated things slightly :D but this thread reeks of purism, plain and simple.

Just listening to this now. :) I'm enjoying it - it's interesting, but I'm sitting down at home. Woe betide anyone playing this kind of techno when I want to dance  ;)

Bugger. did I just say "The Quo"?

He was playing quite minimal stuff. Sometimes minimal can be a bit weedy, but I liked his set a lot :)

  Ok, I'm completely rubbish at genres but whenever I've heard someone say such-and-such is minimal techno, it's been music that has made me want to slit my wrists, but I really liked his set. It banged!

e2a: have I got the right person? I mean the chap who came on just before the sublime gergl. :)

Yeah, some of it just plods along and doesn't have enough going on. But then you get some tracks which are quite minimal but have a nice meaty kick drum to keep you dancing

There was a fantastic white label out last year called Erotic Discourse which is really minimal, but works so well:

Have a listen

It's pure dancefloor music - nothing gets me dancing more than that kind of stuff!
Well admittedly I am now tapping my foot :D but it's neither bouncy nor hard enough for me. Hey ho :)

I know what Mation means though – some minimal stuff bores me to tears.

But when it's glitched-up and punchy with a decent hook, it really works

You mean it's not fast enough. It's hard alright!
No I did mean hard enough (for me, natch).

But it's probably too slow to boot! :p

haha... i love all those techno reords with ridiculously meaningless titles, like they've just closed their eyes and stuck a pin in two words from a dictionary. Stephen brown's releases on Transmat are the eopch of this.

like all those dire old second wave of punk bands with names like 'Chaotic Distemper' etc.:)

I think it may be from Barthes or someone like that

Hmmm... well he certainly didn't play stuff NYTHING like that when i saw him play. that's very, very like the eclectic sort of stuff keith plays at Optimo.
