will that do for now?

all great tracks but aren't about 80% Chicago House/Acid trax rather than techno? (to be pedantic about it)

schranz (in its current incarnation) is really good but no fucker in the country plays it

it's a bit, erm, unreconstructed but that's why I like it :)

techno is dance music for status quo fans

fact

I know people have said it twice already, but it needs saying again: that's acid techno, not proper techno.

Proper techno owns everything.

yep I agree, but I do find that techno can be hideously hit and miss though in terms of keeping me entertained (and I can assure you all its not through a lack of drugs :D)

bees has an ace story about his mate and chris liberator :D (nooo its not rude!)

I'd love to hear *good* techno, on a rig though, never done it
just for ref in reply to blags, page 1

i was there. Was absolutely fantastic. Don't listen to techno much at all any more, and it's almost always Surgeon when I do

Yeah, you were next to me iirc :D

I'm gonna have fun downloading this lot when I'm home later :)

Re Surgeon - I know I'm biased but he owns techno at the mo - no one even comes close. He's made Detroit techno almost irrelevant these days.

It would probably sound better on a container ship.

Actually, this mix isn't really 'techno' either - strictly speaking, it's more Ghetto Tech or whatever they're calling it this week.

It's certainly not Ghettotech and it's certainly techno - wonky techno

Fucking shit, that's what it is - hard loopy techno with elements of hard trance - the likes of Chris Liebing play it

No it's not, that's the Schranz of quite a few years ago. These days it's very hard, fast, bassy percussive techno with lots of distortion and feedback, mainly originating in Germany (where there's a massive scene) but also from other bits of Northern and Eastern Europe. Pitched around 140-165bpm it's wicked, massively danceable stuff. A lot of it sounds the same, but that can be said of any dance music genre. As a rule old people tend not to like it though.

Chris Liebing has distanced himself from the term (he originally coined it over 10 years ago) and it's got *fuck* *all* to do with hard trance. Get it right OU!

Anyway, decent producers/DJs are: Sven Wittekind, Robert Natus, Frank Kvitta, Tomash Gee, Felix Kroecher, Arkus P, OBI, Boris S, DJ Mahatma, Alex Calver (British DJ who's just started producing it), Seema, Matt M Maddox, Sandy Warez, ViperXXL and DJ Amok.

Unfortunately it's yet to take much of a hold in this country but I'm doing my best to push things forward in my manor ;)

absolutely, the way he works in such a diverse range of non-techno stuff (dubstep, for example, and even some breakcore-ish tunes) and still fits it together coherently. It's really banging but there's a lot of brains and some humour there too.

just genius - rue the fact I never saw him at House of God :(

You may be better qualified than me...i'm only really familiar with the DJ Slugo and databass etc trax, but i just prosumed from some of the other labels I recognised it was sorta 'ghetto tech' . again, some of the stuff of which from detroit is great, but i was sent an Andrea parker mix not that long ago and didnt really find too much on that to get excited about.

But anyway, i could well be totally wrong as i dont really follow the scene any more or go to techno/house nights.:)

True, but IMO not for the better. You can't beat the Innovators & Originators.
Well, there's the Surgeon fella we've just been talking about, he knocks the Belleville Three into a hat or whatever the term is. There's not a huge amount of good Detroit techno about these days - their house music is doing the business, but generally the techno is tired and formulaic

This thread has got the decrepid techno fascist snobs out in force I see. Shall we just ban anything made since 1994?

no. plenty of great records made after 94.

just ban all the 'trance' and 'acid' techno* and all that tuneless justin berkovi style piss and i'll be happy :D

(*in fact any genre of techno with a prefix should just be bundled into a sack and drowned like a three-legged poodle)

Not quite - as I've said, there's the likes of Surgeon who plays lots of brilliant new techno and other genres

I totally agree with you (apart from this bit: "he knocks the Belleville Three into a hat" which is simply absurd) i just haven't liked the Surgeon stuff i've heard - tho that was a long time ago admittedly. Nice guy tho, just personal taste.:)
