Ture. Thomas won it in 2104. What grates me is these Sky millionaires refusing to ride in the national championships yet will be all to keen to wear the British shirt in the World Championships. Same goes for Messrs Martin and Roche and the tricolour,.

The problem is tho that cyclists obviously plan their year well in advance and have to peak at certain times. if the C Games clash with where they need to be from a fitness/timing point of view then they cant really jeopardise their season.

The British Nats are much improved as a spectacle by the absence of Sky stars, so I’m not really complaining. In the first half of this decade it was getting as bad as Spain, with one dominant team crushing everyone. In Ireland, well I’m reasonably forgiving of riders who have previously won it and have participated for many years giving it a miss. Roche did do it again this year though.

When I saw the headline I thought he must have got pissed up again and mislaid it but it seems that was someone from Pinnarello!
