Tamil protest, the difference?

Lets be honest here.

TV shots of the Police beating on white people then no real fuss. TV shots of the Police beating on non-white people then suddenly a whole industry clicks into action and before you know it its all public enquiries and so on.

Now I appreciate that I am going to get slated for this and thats just the nature of Urban and fair enough but if this had been a bunch of Anarchists staging this sort of illegal demo then I can guarantee it would not be going on this morning.

Its got nothing to do with race or skin colour. These people are protesting peacefully. The security services clearly see the anarchists as more of a threat to our society. The fact the alternatives have a history of confrontations with the police probably pre-empt the polices attitude and each event may involve a little bit of score settling from either side. (I see the attacks on protestors as continuation of intiimidation from the 80s on, and an unjustified attack on a way of life). British/Sri-Lankan tamils have yet to kick off in the same way.

Why do you think they come from India? These people are ethnic Sri Lankan Tamils, lets not get too historical eh, because its utterly meaningless.
I stuck 'tamil' into Google Maps. I wasn't paying much attention to detail, seeing as it was just a cheap joke.

100,000 today where do all these people come from

Admittedly, the Tamils probably started things with their separatist movement but then the majority Sinhalese population started doing street-by-street massacres in reprisal and thousands of Tamils fled to the Uk in the 80s and 90s. And that's why they're here.

The Tamil Tigers used to have strong support from the Tamil expatriates but they've lost all that now. The protesters are worried for the thousands of villagers caught up in a largely secret war.

I don't think the many sizeable groups chanting "Tamil Tigers - freedom fighters" on last week's march would agree with you on this.

I've just been past Parliament Square. It's packed. It's also full of schoolkids. Can't see the police being heavy-handed with hundreds of schoolkids there.

Hasn't always stopped them in the past:

"There was a bit of panic. Some people left, but most people decided to stay. We were pushed up against the gates of Downing Street just because there was so many people. Then the police decided to push everyone away from Downing Street. They had crash barriers that they were using to push us back. They were quite obviously prepared. So everybody got pushed back and we decided to sit down. The police then really wanted to be people away. They were picking people up by whatever means possible and dragging them back to the other side of the street behind a big set of barriers. People being picked up by their throats, having hands twisted behind them, that wasn’t nice."

I thought kids were on school holidays anyway but obviously not, but there's whole classes there

Good! kids should get involved in protests IMO. It helps them understand and appreciate their own role in the world and what they can do to enact change in society.
I see that as a really positive thing.

And very educational too, it goes towards their sat marks if it hasn't been boycotted by then.
