Taliban continue holy war on human rights in Afghan

Yes, of course. But the question is what's to be done now. I think it's a complicated & difficult issue. I don't hear many solutions, just criticisms (mostly valid) of past actions.

Well you've swallowed the Kool-Aid and no mistake.

Those criticisms might reflect how useful western military intervention has been.
Clearly what we need is more of the same.
Reminds me of the Inquisition.
Killling your family is solely for your own benefit.

It's a bad, bad time to be a woman living in Afghanistan.

If the Taliban scum manage to convince the warlords, then the entire country is fucked beyond repair - in addition to the kudos of repelling the UK/US military they'll be pushing into Pakistan and no doubt if left alone would be keen to kick it all off with India.

I say arm the women.

The warlords don't exactly have good rep when it comes to human rights either.

Just to reiterate, politically speaking no one gives a flying fuck what the Taliban do to women or what the Taliban do at all - well, they care as much as they care about the bombing and maiming of civilians inside the Tamil enclave in Sri Lanka, for example. Politically, it's irrelevant.

The issue is the hosting of Al-Queda, firstly by the Tailban in Afghanistan and now by elements of the Pakistani Government - as well as the Taliban - inside Pakistan. All this bleating about human rights is a little amusing given what the Anglo-Saxon imperialists have done to 'detainees' in recent years.

In a lot of these questions the issue of who 'the Taliban' actually are seems to get lost. As far as I can make out the name certainly doesn't refer to a centralised hierarchical organisation. If that were the case then they would be a lot easier to fight. So who are the men who join up, who are the men in charge in different locations? Are they really religious fundies or are they just riding on that bandwagon in order to get popular support? Do they really want what they say they want? Is it anything more than organised gangsterism under a religious banner? Who takes the title of 'taliban' these days, and how do the militias spread and recruit? Who really answers to who within the 'taliban' movement?

Seems to me these are pretty important questions if you want get out of kneejerk kill-the-taliban mode. I'm not sure Obama is asking any more than Bush though.
