taken out on bike by idiot bus driver opening doors

I tell him to get to fuck and bang on the doors of the bus - driver opens front doors and says 'i told him to look before he got off', i tell him he shouldn't have let him off and he shrugs and drives off.

Hope you're not too bashed up, it will probably be tomorrow that you'll properly feel the aches and pains.

In the old routemaster days I had someone jump off right in front of me and ended up in casualty having my top lip sewn back together. The bloke legged it up the road as soon as he saw what he'd done. :(

And your contribution is ... (apart from picking a fight)?

i was surprised to see DB on here - to be honest I've ahd enough of him butting in to every thread to make his smug and pointless comments that are ususally based on nothing but his own prejudices and dodgy police statistics.

I never have pen/paper or my phone to hand either when on my bike - always in my panniers....

Would anything actually happen though if I did report an incident like that?

you'd probably get a letter telling you the driver's been re-trained or briefed on his responsibilties _ I had one once.

What it really needs is for a cycling organisation like the LCC to take it up on our behalf, and I know they have made some inroads on this.

It's probably worth doing though - just not at all easy.

I always think should take the details. Usually I'm far too shaken up - just like you say - last time I tried though the driver opened his window and bashed my phone out of my hand as I was typing in the details. Byt the time I resuced the phone from under a car, he'd gone. the time before that the driver got out and confronted me - very intimidating, and I walked away.

So it's not a very easy thing to do.

camera phone just take a picture deal with the other things later...

I'm never entirely sure which bits of information is required for them to be able to id the driver.

I've noticed that drivers like to make sure I can't see their badge number once they've done something wrong.

I reported a bus driver who swerved to hit me going down Bishopsgate one morning - registration plate, bus number and exact time, plus description of driver - got letter back saying he had been identified etc, would be interviewed about his behaviour blah blah blah.

In hindsight I don't know why I didn't just report it to the police

Surely they should be able to work it out if you ge the registration number, the route, time and location?

i'd have thought so - but when i was very much younger and always complained about such things i was often told that they were unable to identify the driver.

even getting the reg plate, and the route number is impossible at times. I am absolutely unable to remember numbers at moments of high stress, and don't always have a phone/ camera handy. Buses don't usually stop so you have to be quick.

And what would they have done?
One hopes they would treat it as a potential offence and investigate accordingly - stacks of CCTV covering that stretch of road. Either way you would expect them to identify and interview the driver - which I bet would put the wind up them far more than an friendly chat with their boss or whatever. Or maybe I'm being completely naive

:( nasty. glad you're in one piece.

i think in general bus drivers and passengers just don't think when they're letting people off away from a bus stop, i've never yet seen a single person look before they step off.

i think it would be safer for all concerned if bus drivers stuck to the rules and refused to let people off away from stops.

Having got stuck at Whitehall the other day, it wouldn't surprise me if woman was giving driver an earful. Took me around 10 minutes to go from Westminster Bridge to the first stop on Parliament Street the other day because of the roadworks

One would hope so but given that my neighbour physically caught one of the little twats who'd been going down our street knocking over people's scooters and still the police did nothing, I have very little faith in them at the moment.

I would have got much more saitsfaction from just cycling in the middle of the road in front of the bus so that the driver couldn't get round me again but unfortunately, he went a different way.... would have done very little for bus driver/cyclist relations I know but it would have made me feel better :D

Seems to be happening more often, careless bus drivers dropping passengers all over a busy road at will.

Hapenned to me ages ago in Elephant & Castle, I was really going some too pedalling furiously to overtake a bus on the inside of that roundabout system, and the bus was 200 yards from the kerb and some old dear decided too late she wanted to get off.

So driver opens doors and lets her off, and it's been raining and I hit the brakes and pull off a pretty good slide, speedway style, for about 20 yards.

She's carrying a load of shopping, and she sees me sliding towards her and drops all her shopping thinking I'm about to mug her.

End up 3 inches from her, close enough to snog the old dear, and she's stood there in shock, eyes closed, and I'm like "you OK?" and she's fine, I back off and she picks up her shopping and toddles off.

Was quite funny in retropect, though it didn't occur to me at the time it was the drivers fault.

Thing is - had I been a car or motorbike I'd never have stopped in time - she'd have been dead.

I think it's like most organisations - quite possibly not if it was a one-off / there was no injury / damage .... but most companies do maintain some form of log of incidents / complaints and if it was the latest in a series of similar complaints then it may well result in some action.

One things for sure: there's more chance of it having an effect if you do report it than if you don't!

Every thread?
Smug and pointless - not according to much of the feedback I get from other posters.
Based on nothing but prejudices - no. That'll be YOUR posts about me. (How the fuck can a post about only a minority of bus drivers carelessly opening their doors be based on any fucking prejudice at all ... )
Dodgy police statistics - please find a single post I've ever made based on police statistics ...

You really do need help ...

The registration number will suffice if they want to identify the bus and it's driver. Route number helps (not least because it will lead to the right contractor).

If it is a serious incident and they do investigate, the bus driver will be in shit if they are out of order as most buses have excellent quality CCTV inside and out. (Some garages don't keep it long though - I've encountered one who only keep it 7 days though I think that may have changed since.)

One hopes they would treat it as a potential offence and investigate accordingly
Only if it was a proper collision in which damage/injury was caused or, at a push, if there was a serious driving offence (or criminal offence if it was a deliberate assault with a vehicle) alleged. Failing to stop and give details (provided there was damage or injury caused) would be sufficient for the police to investigate.

What do you mean by "nothing"? Did they not attend?

Not sure actually - I guess they must have turned up at least - but there was no form of prosecution, caution or anything despite them having been caught absolutely red-handed.
If there wasn't then it merits some request for further information - it may be that there has been a fuck up (in which case a complaint should be made) ... but there are a number of reasons why further action was not taken which are entirely justifiable. I suggest the neighbour writes to get some more information on the outcome - they are entitled to some basic information but not necessarily the full details (as they are not the actual victim).

Would appear it is moron week for bus drivers. On my way home tonight past Waterloo, one pulled into a stop with me on his inside, meaning I had to slam the brakes on and actually get off the bike. Went to tell him what a fuckwit he was and the exchange went...

Me: What the f*ck are you doing pulling in with me on the inside of you??
Him: I didn't hit you, did I?
Me: Not the point, it's bloody dangerous
Him: Mate...(and I loved this bit)...I'm allowed to park here

I mean, wtf!!?!? Grrr etc.

DB really does make alot of very worthwhile and informative posts on here, especially in cases like these. so there :p

passing buses on the inside is always a tough one; do you do it, risk the peds but keep the security of the pavement close by? or hoof it down the middle with traffic moving in opposite directions down either side but little risk of lemmings?
