If you can't snap it cleanly into two pieces, it's not tablet.
my teeth ache thinking about tablet
I love both
I suppose so. But there's some fudge that is sneakily a bit like tablet in that it's snappable. Bastard! I have not thought about either tablet or fudge for AGES, and now I want some.
This snappable fudge. How does it differ from tablet?
That's it, you see - I don't know. I think I have in mind some sort of thing that is named "XYZ fudge" but it is not quite so fudgey as most fudge. I can't recall its name.
And the only thing to do, really, is to get together a whole range of fudges and tablets, plus this semi-mythical halffudgehalftablet that I now rather regret mentioning and then we must compare and contrast them all.
And we would get VERY FAT!
Ooh, I want some fudge or tablet. teuchter, you will probably burn in hell for being a bad influence.
(Hmm, I've got some sugar, only got dried milk, and not got any butter, but I wonder if there's any fudge-construction I could do).
My grandma made the best tablet in the world until she died. FACT.
I don't believe you. You must send me a sample (BIG sample) and let me form a proper judgement.
I'm not very keen on fudge. I mean I'll eat it in a sort of half-hearted way if it's sitting there and there's nothing else sweet. Tablet is much better. It's like sugar but with more sugar crammed into it using science.
Ooh, that's good. It's not an indulgence - it's a scientific achievement. I like your way of thinking.
Could be tricky, what with her being dead like.
You should have kept some in a cupboard or a safe.
Well, my Mum took over the family recipe when Gran died but it's not quite the same. I suspect she holds back on the condensed milk. I keep meaning to make some myself. I'll let you know if I do.
Nae saft tablet here!
Tablet is horrible - way too sweet to be fit for human consumption.
Kendal mint cake is the proper way to have a sugar hit.
Yes, that's right, because Kendal mint cake never seems too sweet.
Ah, but it doesn't as the minty goodness reduces the sweetness. I can eat a 125g bar in one go, whereas tablet is cloyingly sweet so 0.0000000000001g is too much.
OK, but what about Strathaven Toffee? Is that tablet or snappable toffee?
Better battery life.
I've never heard of such a thing (I am less than 100 years old) but according to the Herald:
Behind the counter Suck it and see
My neighbour makes great tablet. She always gives us some at Christmas, usually 3 flavours: a plain one, one with candied ginger, one with walnuts and cherries. Sometimes cardamom instead of ginger. It's really good stuff. (I'm a traditionalist, but the flavoured ones really are great. They won me over).
Anyway, my granny used to make tablet. I have her recipe, but it never turns out like hers. I know she used to break all the rules, and I suspect she didn't really follow the recipe.
So, what's your recipes?
All I know is that the tablet you used to get at jumble sales in the central highlands in the 80s/90s was generally the proper stuff.
Recently I have had many disappointing tablet experiences, generally through purchases not made at jumble sales but within Scotland and the highlands.
apparently it doesn't taste right or set unless you use a wooden spoon for the cooking and stirring. this is what my ma has tole me anyway
Hmmmm. maybe this something i should be making and flogging at twee farmers markets dahn sarf
A friend of mine has a business making and selling tablet, in all sorts of flavours. It's dangerous! too tasty...
