SOAD are fucking shit. End of. They make me puke.

So do Girls Aloud.

And The Streets.
Fair enough not liking the above, but what relationship do The Streets, Girls Aloud and SOAD have to each other?
(Do they really make you puke? I'd like to try that out- music that makes people physically sick! Funk often makes me feel a little queasy but I have yet to find anything that actually makes me chuck!)

And for all their supposed anarchist stance ....
SOAD are anarchists? That's odd, because they've never said they were or advocated anarchist politics.

Who gives a fuck if they appeared in an advert anyway? Like you wouldn't if you were offered the cash.

But so are thousands of other bands! I demand an exhaustive list now! :p

:D

TBH I only put Girls Aloud on there because I know a lot of Urbanites bizarrely like them.

Despite The Streets and SOAD being very different I associate them because they are pretty much the only 2 bands that make me turn my tv over when they appear on a music channel. I might like SOAD in a couple of years as I used to detest the Scissor Sisters when they came on the scene a couple of years ago. Now I like them loads.

I saw some shit band on tv yesterday doing a Psychedelic Furs cover. They are shit too but I don't know who they are.

We can't help it if you're slow to get a grip on decent music though - that's your problem :p

Examples?

The above car-parts ad is probably the most obvious one. In fact it couldn't be more utterly at odds with what they claim to stand for.

There was other stuff linked on the last thread too.

Really? So you don't think an LP entitled "Steal This Album" and songs like "Bring Your Own Bombs" allude to that ever-so-marketable "anarchist" rock, just like that other sell-out band Rage Against The Machine?

Added to this the numerous revolutionary messages in the lyrics and in interviews with the band.

Who gives a fuck if they appeared in an advert anyway? Like you wouldn't if you were offered the cash.

I wouldn't if I were already in a hugely successful rock band, no.

And I don't give a fuck that they're in an advert, as long as they're not trying to sell people the anti-capitalist message - which they clearly are.

I've never heard anyone who is a fan of theirs claim any special political significance, or claim to take their lyrics or "message" seriously.

Expect you when you're looking for a stick.

:p

I keep forgetting how you snuck into my home when I wasn't around...

Blame Dave, he invited me in :p

I miss my hi-fi - I sold it all before I left.

Mark got some of it but couldn't get it to work properly.........so he sold it to Em.

Oh - BTW, if you are still in touch with Mark, give him a bell - he is in hospital with a pulmonary embolism (!!!!) and he is bored as fuck........

Really? I've been on holiday for a week, thought he was back in canada though.

Had to cancel due to aforementioned pulmonary embolism.....

We are a little worried he isn't taking this seriously - you know what he is like........

:(

Odd, my experience is that they are mostly as worthy as a Billy Bragg fan at the height of Thatcherism. Even the less worthy ones usually get to the Armenian stance in double-quick time.

I always took their political claims to be adamantly anti-cap but then going & advertising car parts puts them completely of that entire sphere by default, never mind their participating in major corporate festivals etc.
