System of A Down and that Tanktop Bloke...

SOAD are pretty freaking clever in what they do imo, can't even compare to anything else, let alone trying to put them in the same camp as RATM or Limp Bizkit!!!

I do think that their political work is pretty good, awareness raising etc. Useful.

would you rather have good political work by a bunch of po-faced clowns or vacuous nonsense from people who are cool?

EH? EH? :p

if you don't like it, go to fucking Russia, dude.

you used the word "freaking" in your post, which means your opinions cannot be counted. Sorry :(

I thought they were called Cistern Of A Down for ages. Tis a much more appropriate moniker given how toilet they are. Bus station toilet at that.

Does that include the endorsement of car parts by Shavo?

Then there is the guitarist's poetry. Truly unforgivable.

Endorsement of car parts? say it aint so :(

And yeah, bad poetry. But hey, I still think they're entertaining. Haven't heard Serj Tankian's solo album then so I'll reserve judgement.

What's that about? Does he produce windscreen wipers and gearsticks during gigs and say "Hey these are like awesome."

I think they are great, if only for the randomness of some of the polka interludes in some of their songs :D

yeh i second this. the wacky vocals and pseudo-political mumblings tend to put me off but i do like their silly folky rock moments.

They're not as daft as Avenged Sevenfold with their silly names that they think make them look hard...

I mean really. Would you call yourself Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance or M. Shadows

Read an interview with them once. Bunch of twats. No doubt about it :D

I quite like them too, and I also quite like Marilyn Manson.

I'd point and laugh at anyone who takes them seriously though. I think they don't for starters.

Any band that carry round the putrifying carcass of a crow in a jar, have to be taken very seriously. or not.

He was the poster boy for Diablo Wheels for a while.

I'm generally not interested in any metal made after about '92 so I'd never heard them until recently when I saw their film about the Armenian Genocide on BBC4, twas pretty good as was their music.

bluestreak said:
Yeah, they've been campaigning for recognition og the genocide for years.

did you see that documentary recently?? quite moving and they're obviously sincere

i like a bit of SOAD:p

Wouldn't say I take them seriously. Of the stuff I've heard though I like the music. Sounds a little more complex than most commercial metal.

I can't take heavy metal seriously at all. It's just so ... angsty.

'My mum won't let me pain my bedroom black! I hate her! I HATE her!'

I feel like saying to most teenage metallers, 'Don't worry, heavy metal is like acne: most of us grow out of it at some point.'

This reminds me of when Calvin (of 'and Hobbes' fame) is getting into 'Suicide Metal' and Dad says they're frauds because they haven't killed themselves:

'You mean mainstream nilihism can't be trusted?'

''Fraid not kiddo'

:D

Sysatem of a down are decent. The drummer is spectaular serj is decent lyrically and its fookin heavy.

They are one of the few bands that gets lumped into nu metal that i still like. They are immense live.

Suspicions of shitness first aroused by the pisspoor shouty racket were confirmed 100% when I saw how he holds his mike.

I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed with the way the singer uses his voice. The music tends towards being not as clever as they think it is, but nevertheless as metal goes it's pretty clever.

Clever music is made of fretwanking fail. And if they're so clever why do they hold the mike incorrectly.

As prog rock goes, Yes were pretty clever.

They were also shit :)
