Synergy Project ripped off in tickets scam

iirc Synergy were the lot that spammed this site and made the editor tear out his hair in furious frustration at their wanky antics.
exactly. and before that a rather over-enthusiastic camp-follower claimed they were the 'new cooltan' or summat, which made many of us go thermonuclear

I'm so glad everyone is sympathetic to poor old Synergy!

It's made posting the original article worthwhile.

any one ever been there, people? or experienced any good stuff that it does?
first i heard of it....

Nope, although I may take a visit over to there at some point. I've badmouthed the Synergy crew for their actions in the past and I'm still cynical, but they've at least got one or two well intentioned, good hearted people contributing at the centre.

In terms of good stuff it does, the folks I know use it as a good base for them and their children, with some classes/entertainment put on for the little ones by volunteers. That ain't bad in my book, but I'm unsure as to how much is 'officially' put on by Synergy, as opposed to the usual community figures...

there's a pic on their site from their october event that looks suspiciously like saaam engaged in a bit of borstal sock poi ;)

I don't have any tattoos, and neither would I be seen dead in a vest top, or twirling fucking poi!

(tho I did go to a synergy event aaages ago, and I reckon you lot are being a bit harsh on them)

saaam

tax, you are so naughty :D

so saaaaaam do they have 5 times the production of other events you've been to? ;) was it glowing all over...

They do put a heeauge amount of effort into their parties (like a really good psy squat, which as everyone knows are the best produced parties, in terms of effort and real variety) - a lot of the people who were involved in Liquid Connective and ID Spiral are involved in Synergy, and they put on some fucking superb events a few years back. They use the whole of the Drome and only have one dedicated dancefloor - the other rooms are are chillouts, live rooms, performance areas, stalls for NGO/pressure groups etc . . . I went to one of their first events and had a wicked time - my lasting memory from that night was me and my best mate tripping our nuts off on mushies while monopolising the biggest beanbag in the world, and getting confronted with a 5 minute 'performance' about why certain brands of condoms are evil because they have spermicide on them which is bad for ladies' fanjitas :D

As for the price you do get what you pay for, but you've got to enjoy multi-media new age hippy bollocks (I am partial to it now and then) :D to justify it. Obviously it's not everyone's cup of tea, but then again neither is Lapsang Souchong. They are aiming at a certain type of person with their publicity material and as such risk alienating lots of other people (the reaction of many on urban is testament to this).

i've run this through a google translator and it comes out as:

they are a bunch of self-interested hippy fucks who peddle cod-spirituality and half-baked politics as a cynical means of attracting people who like to think they have a raised consciousness to their nights, and attempt to maintain some kind of ethical high ground by having a Fair Trade stall and a pisspoor right-on poet to keep your chakras in good shape while DJ Oily Bongwheel plays toilet trance in a room that looks like somebody's swallowed a bucket of UV paint and then projectile vomited. And all this for £20, some of which eventually makes it into an underachieving community centre, giving them a cover under which they can start saving for their villa in the Balearics.

Which translator might that be, you cynical bellmonkey?

It's a good party, one which I'd pay the same amount for whether it were run by a pee-ahly commercial organisation or not. Unfortunately for you it doesn't seem to fit into your worryingly narrow ideals about how pepole should have fun. I'm sorry for enjoying myself and not utterly hating psy-trance.

And anyway, whirl-y-gig's much better :p

ah, i have very broad ideas about people's fun. they just don't include cynical hippies or psytrance :p

not even on a bonfire?

anyway, the psy-trance is a means to an end - I've been to plenty of psy-trance parties even though I find it more than somewhat tedious, tho some of the stuff I heard at Synergy was pertty damn good twisted melodic bjaning stuff ;)

when are you gonig to head along so you can form a proper opinion then? I'm sure you'd really appreciate some of the happenings one can participate in, they really lift your soul like

If i remember rightly, this lot were slagged off last time they were mentioned on these her boards because they promised a community centre and hadn't delivered, so were called liars and suchlike....

They appear to have a community centre now...

Now they are being slagged off for something else....

What exactly is the problem that you lot have with them. Please explain because i don't understand the reason why whenever they are mentioned that people leap to have a huge go at them?

You might not like yoghurt knitting and dayglo poi, but what really is that wrong with what they are doing

You're not remembering the full picture Lisa.

The real reason why the controversy kicked off is because Synergy trawled through Urban75, 'harvesting' posters' email addresses in order to spam them -- without either the editor's or any posters' permission. I'm still being spammed by them now despite my repeated requests to them to take my name off their lists.

Additionally, the main Synergy bod who came on here to defend the above dodgy behaviour (can't remember his board name atm), rubbed up a LOT of posters the wrong way with his monumental arrogance, his snotty superciliousness ('**We** are on a heightened plane of awareness, you lot just don't understand' was the vibe he exuded), and above all his refusal to even acknowledge that unsolicited spamming is questionable behaviour ... he preferred if I remember rightly to blame peoples' dislike of being spammed on their own unenlightenedness/narrowmindedness or some such ... plus he cheucked ina few 'slavish sycophants of the editor' sneers for good measure ...

I'm not especially keen on psytrance, but I'm not as agin it as Dub -- I have enjoyed Whirl-y-Gig and Liquid Connective parties in the past (they're not all psytrance anyway). But this Synergy lot really gets my back up, they (or some of their representatives anyway) seem to have a genius for alienating people who might have started off better disposed towards them, or at least neutral.

Your hint/implication that the anti-Synergy feeling might be down to 'our' own attitude problem doesn't take into account the fact that Synergy themselves have gone out of their way on Urban to piss people off ... others will remember more details.

As you well know ;) I have plenty of time for SOME hippies ;) but not this lot ...

Also, I don't think any of us have ever really understood what their aims are.

And was there not also some allegation of cheating in the vbulletin community competition?

They're paying £4000/month rent and still need to pay for refurbishment?

Synergy Family Gathering

today Friday the 18th from 10pm till later at the Synergy Centre

The Gathering will feature chilled sets from DJs closest to the heart of the community (Liquid Ross, Mudra, Pete Ardron, Jon Bingly Bongly, Christian Davies, Darren Sangita), with no doubt a few visuals thrown in from some of the Projects leading VJs. Plus a performance by the Centre residents Kakatsitsi, Master Drummers from Ghana and, who knows, some passing Synergy poets, to create that unique Synergy multimedia environment, all set in the wonderful surroundings of the converted warehouse, now resplendent with the new wooden floor.

Entry will cost a strongly recommended donation of £5 or £7 waged, with all proceeds going into the Synergy Centre Refurbishment Fund. Doors will open at 10 and the gathering will go at least until dawn. Whole-food and drink will be provided by the Synergy
