Swimming in brixton

I use to be a regular at Brixton until I realised that Clap'ham is slightly nearer for me. The pool is 5m longer and usually really empty between 10-4. Same prices at Brixton.

That's a nice pool too, but I got pissed off with it when they had the kids in and the lane swimming at the same time.. having been bombed by several kids and also accidentally having kicked a kid in the face whilst swimming laps I complained.. it just wasn't safe. I had to fill in a form and give contact details. No one ever got in touch and nothing changed. I stopped going. This was a while ago now, so hopefully things have improved.

I have not swum at Clapham Manor Pool since about 1998 when I found a turd in a changing cubicle.

Ah yes... sorry about that.... :(

:D :D :D

Let's hope it was the kid you kicked in the face....karma & all that.

(I also complained about the hideous misbehaving little scrotes that pass for children there, & got nowhere too....)

TBH.. it wasn't the kids behaviour that pissed me off.. it was the fact that they put up lanes and then let in bus loads of kids to play at the same time... it was carnage... so dangerous. It would have been better to half the pool and keep a couple of lanes free for those who wanted lane swimming and the other half for the kids... not both at the same time..

Anyway, I am super shivery now... had my last pre-work Lido swim this morning and the lifeguard was wrapped in a blanket with a woolly hat on... only 4 of us swimming.... it was a great atmosphere though.. the blustery wind and falling leaves... I'm going to really miss it.. I wish it were open year round. :(

this is the sorry excuse for a website but it doesnt have any info.

anybody got any better info about times the pool is open, when its busy, womens only sessions etc?

wiskers

gergl and I go to Clapham Manor pool twice a week during the day now. We have been now doing this on and off for 18 months :) The first time we did 20 lengths in half an hour and used that as a baseline. My general level of fitness is much better . Good luck with it, and consider swimming with a buddy. I found it a much easier way to get started and stay with it.

The pool opens till about 10, I think, although I'm not sure when it opens in the morning (I've thought about swimming before work for years now, but still haven't found the willpower.) Women only sessions are 7-8pm, on Sunday and Monday. I've only found it to be really busy around 6-7ish, when people go after work. Generally it isn't too bad.

Sorry, can't help on this one - the lack of detailed times for all the centres has pissed me off for years. It does a lot to discourage casual swimmers when there is no information on what times are women only, kids sessions, aqua exercise etc, swimming clubs. Neither Brixton Rec nor Streatham Pool ever seem to have timetable leaflets at reception (unless there has been some recent drastic improvement while I have been swimming at Tooting Lido over the summer).

Maintaining an up to date website with such details ought to be an essential part of every council's contract with their leisure centre operator.

Maybe if everyone who feels this way fired off a complaint to:
[email protected] [the centre management]
with copies to:
[email protected] [ Lambeth Sports (the "client side")]
and
[email protected] [Clare Whelan, Councillor with responsibility for leisure]
we might see some changes

Right, I actually have a pool timetable here now, after a quick root in the drawer.

The pool is open 7-10.30 during the week, and 8-8 at weekends. Women only sessions are 7-8 Monday and 6-7 Sundays.

Hope that helps.

E&C went a while ago, as you say.

i really like the Brixton Pool, especially at night when the station lights shine through the windows. kind of calm and eerie

Yeah I'm digging that too.

brixtons not so bad, could've been better. reception staff made me go to a shop cos they couldnt give me change of a tenner (at 2:30pm), second time round at reception he had to photocopy me the timetable cos he only had one copy, swimming cost £2.80, lockers cost a quid!!!, got told off by the bloke by the pool for not having my little bit of paper to give him.

however once in the pool it was ok. i found the water a little over chlorinated so will have to take some goggles. changing rooms are still as grotty as ever (what are those things growing on the ceiling??), but it was nice and peaceful with only about 8 adults and 1 school group.

when did they open the two pools up together, it all seems bigger/brighter.

anyways i did 26 lengths and my eyes sting

:)
