Surviving power cuts

:D We would resist!!

Who gets to be the banker btw? :hmm:

I am not allowed
Kitty would find it too stressful
It would have to be you babes
Also we will be playing with grammes not money ;)

If we really wanted to mess with Kitty's head then it would HAVE to be Buckaroo!!!!

I would consult with friends who have had homelessness experience over winter, as they are full of innovative tips.

The last power cut we had was on christmas day 2007 - it was off for about an hour and a bit, just as the turkey was half way through cooking  :D

I just took it next door and put it in one of their gas ovens and got pissed :)

This happened a couple of times when I lived on the university campus. Once in the evening, so we went to the pub. And once all day and most of the night, so we went to the pub.

At first I tried to amuse myself but I had so much reading to do for uni that I soon realised I didn't have any books there that were for 'fun' and secondly candles are banned from halls of residence and although most people ignore the rule I just never saw much point in breaking it. It came as a bit of a shock how much we relied on electricity, pretty much all our entertainment was electronic, so was all the heating and the cooker, the flats were also designed not to have windows in the bathrooms so going to the toilet was an adventure and we couldn't have warm showers. It was winter so the temperature dropped fast. The pub was really our only option ;)

It must have been pretty weird for the town, usually most of the students went to the SU or into London but that night about 2000 students collectively descended on the town's pubs :D

Now I would probably tidy and read during the day and get candles out and read at night, its what I did as a kid.

I take it the OP does not live in one of the parts of the UK where powercuts are still not uncommon?

In that case, you would pull-out the powercut box - candles, lanterns (for heat as well as light) blankets & a selection of canned/packeted, easy to heat-up foods plus other items that make life easier in the cold & dark. Oh & plenty spare batteries for the radio.

Luckily there has not been a good long powercut here for a few years, an hour or two at most. :)

No I'm lucky enough to live in a big city that hasn't had a proper power cut for a long time. The odd hour or two here and there, but not a major outage that lasts for a full night or more.

I remember that kind of power cut from being a kid in the '70s but that was a result of workers taking action, not because the national grid like most infrastructure here has been allowed to decay to the point that it will probably start to fail soon.

the first think i would do is log on to urban to see who else it effects.
