Super Sunday!!!

I'm obviously going to go for a Liverpool win, but whatever, it's going to be a cracking game. Hopefully. May the best team win. :)

Nervous? Imagine Utd losing at home to Liverpool. That would be unbearable no?

yeah i am nervous about the game but i expect the red shite to be as well, unfortunately they apparently aren't, possibly because of them being deluded muppets and for less lead posioned ones possibly the fact youse aren't playing for anything whilst we are.

We've won 7 on the trot, the scum have been faltering of late, only ronaldo playing for them
3-0 Man U, nicely faltered; I hope Chelsea can falter as well later afternoon. Sleater, you've obviously a keen eye for the beautiful game; are you perchance a professional pundit?:D

Arsenal - maybe it's the french connection - remind me of the pacemakers sent out by leading teams in Le Tour. When the real boys stretch their legs, they fall away, & i think today was that day.

can't see blues catching the scum; early congrats to r68 et al.

Loved both games. Not bothered about the results though im happy to see liverpool lose.

Aye - these games are usually pretty dire IMO - but I actually enjoyed watching these.

The Nani goal was great, although I always expect him to land on his face when he attempts those OTT celebrations.

Why didn't Gerrard play yesterday - was he injured or something.

:D again Andersen looks a better player than him already....Torres must be getting fed up of being kept in Rio's pocket

Interestingly Pases between scholes and Rooney = 22 passes between Torres and Gerard=6!!!

Successful passes Utd 518 ...Liverpool 222...passing and movement far superior..

.....Utd outclassed Liverpool and the result shows the difference in quality between the two teams....we bought on Tevez and Nani Liverpool bought on Benyaoum....says it all:)

i thought at the time that mascherano's sending off was a real shocker and now that the dust has settled i still feel it's a complete disgrace that steve bennett behaved like that. what a complete tosser, and i'm not even a liverpool fan.

anyone who plays the game knows that you must be able to talk to a referee. it's not dissent. you must be able to communicate with him. what happened on sunday had an extremely negative affect on the game, but will also have a negative affect on the game as a whole. are referees going to become so precious that you can't engage in simple dialogue? the cole affair was completely irrelevant to this game, it's not an epidemic or is no more than it's ever been and i can't believe the fa are standing by bennett and threatening further suspensions for mascherano.

torres was animated in talking to the ref but it was clear that he was complaining that he wasn't getting enough protection, that he was being fouled consistently. he's well within his rights to do that if the language and attitude is not profane or aggressive. a player must be able to do that. it's not dissent.

i was disappointed to read in the guardian that 'mascherano raced over to bennett.' he didn't. he walked over smiling and seemed quite calm, and asked what was going on, why torres was not able to talk to the ref. once again, not dissent as no disrespect was shown. it even looked like an attempt to calm the ref down... (incredibly stupid seeing the position he was in).

with both players, bennett apparently was incapable of listening to what was actually being said and let a hell of a lot of people down by being small-minded, influenced by a previous incident in another match and acting against the spirit of the game.

IMHO mascherano should not be suspended further and the fa should explain to bennett the difference between dialogue and dissent.
i'm not saying that mascherano wasn't particularly stupid or hadn't shown disrespect to the referee previously in the game but for that booking it was bennett who was out of line. it would set a very sad precedent if this second booking was looked on as perfectly reasonable.

I think part of the problem is with prissy refs like Bennett. Premisership footballers are mostly spoiled brats who aren't used to people telling them what they can and can't do, but it must be especially galling to be told it by some tight-assed smug fucker.

yeah i'm not defending footballers, alan sugar spot on when he called them scum etc. but for the sake of the game refs like bennett need at least a bit of intelligence and common sense

*applauds*

The Guardian report was written by a non-ashamed ManU fan, and is the most one-eyed view possible.

Dry your eyes, Carragher could have easily walked 8 mins in when the carthorse got skinned by Rooney.

It's a good job Bennett gave youse something to focus on other than the fact all youse got hammered.

par for the course, I'm afraid. FWIW I thought Mascherano was an idiot and Bennett a cunt.

*sits on fence*
I think there has to be a point during persistent argument, non-threatening, where the ref has to make a physical signal which means "if you continue arguing from this point you will receive a card"

I agree, which shapes my opinion of Bennett. There also has to be a better way of making your point than approaching the ref and doing it right under his nose, which shapes my opinion of Mashcerano.

Let us take on board these wise words:

There has to be a line drawn and confronting the referee has to be taken out of the game." - John Terry

*fails to find appropriate smilie*

Man Utd weren't great yesterday, Liverfools were very poor. Brilliant dive from Ronaldo as well.

What do you expect Man United to do? They played what was infront of them and beat them comfortably in a game that could have ended 6-0 if Rooney and Ronaldo had finished half their chances?

It seems to me that unless Man United thrash a side by 7, Ronaldo scores a hatrick and Rooney scores 2, they apparently 'weren't great'.

Rooney was excellent yesterday and with a bit more luck in front of goal would have had a hat trick.

Why did Mascherano feel the need to get involved? He was already on a booking and should have stayed well clear from the incident.

It is plain from this video (51 seconds)

that he didn't just walk over. I agree that perhaps he didn't race over but he was not involved in the incident at all. As soon as he went over to the referee, he was going to get another booking for needlessly telling the referee how to referee the game. One of his fellow players guessed this by trying to pull him away beforehand.

His actions showed clear dissent. I don't believe that you have to disrespect someone to show dissent, although his attitude towards the referee prior to that showed that he disrespected the referee.

I thought the referee was spot on with the decision.

It was crazy and ill disciplined of the Liverpool team to win a free kick and then get 2 players booked for it. :D

And as for Mascherano's demonstrations after the sending off, I feel a hefty (and justified) ban coming.

Tbh man utd being so good was the reason liverpool were so shit, you can't just say it was one or the other. You could easily see why liverpool are so far behind man utd in the league.
