Subway fast food outlets

I didn't realise this was a chain until I saw one in Zagreb and went; 'Hey! Wow! There's a butty bar back home called that!'

At which point everyone, it seemed, within 75km called me a thick wanker.

PS I like their veggie cheesy salady garlic stuff.

What do you have- just bread and salad? The veggie pattie isnt vegan you know...
Yeah bread and salad :D

They call it the "Veggie Delight" though so you don't have to say "Oh, I'll just have bread and salad"

Oh! so like, a veggie delight without the cheese :D

I just made the mistake of having a steak and cheese sandwich from Subway cos the nice sandwich shop closed down. It wasn't disgusting but only cos it had no taste whatsoever. It was just stodge.
And they expect you to pour your own drink and fetch your own crisps! The cheek!

I have had a few.
Normally the footlong Meatball Marinara.
They are not really great and seem a bit expensive for what you get.

I love them and have one about every 6 weeks. I still have the veggie delight toasted with extra olives & jalopenos.

i have the veggie patty one with loads of veg and stuff. very tasty. only as a treat every couple of months though.

I've just had a meatball sub with lettuce and red onion. It was sub of the day so £2.29. It was nice but very messy to eat.

I noticed in the states last year that the pricing was more or less the same in dollars but there was a lot more by way of filling, drinks etc in with the price.

they're really tight/strict about the fillngs - i asked for more cheese but they said they could only give what was in the 'recipe'

they're pretty tight over extra cheese and meat, but the veg you can cram as much as you want in.

I came across my first 'proper' sandwich shop in the late 1980s. Subway-style in that it had a counter full of ingredients and a selection of breads and sauces, and you got exactly what you asked for, like making your own sandwich from the world's best ever fridge.

I haven't seen that model done well for an age. Subway couldn't franchise a model which buys its produce fresh from the local market every day, so they blandified it and made it unique and scaleable, whilst still using the best model for selling really good sandwiches. If you'd never been to a quality sandwich shop, you could be forgiven for thinking that they were pretty decent.

The quality shops now seem to be selling posh ready-mades. when it would surely be better if they did build your own?

the best sandwich shop in london is a bit like the one you describe, all prepared in front of you - only 2-3 quid as well
