stream the new Flaming Lips album

Coyne DIDN'T claim it, because he's a decent bloke. But plenty of reviews from the time made it clear that was the case.

If he was a decent bloke, and not a lily livered, loose tongued fink; He wouldn't have broken the, what I imagine to be, unwritten rock show law, that you don't bitch non stop about the big name act who hired you for their tour, even if they do lord it over you, because that's their right, which he (Beck) probably didn't anyway. :p

what toss. :p

chazegee - got some links to prove Wayne was non-stop bitching about Beck....?

Non stop may be over doing it. It's just, on the internet, one interview creates a thousand links. :D

Cult rocker Beck was "totally surprised" when The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne slammed him in an interview.

The Loser singer found the attack unexpected because the pair had got on so well during their year-long joint tour. In a recent interview, Coyne said, "Being around Beck, I did get the feeling that he's just removed from everyday existence. "Beck didn't treat people badly, he was just so oblivious to other people's lives. None of it's horrible. He's not a Nazi or anything. He's just a little inconsiderate. To be considerate you have to have some idea of what's going on. I mean, we'd be set to rehearse from noon till midnight every day. And there'd be days when he wouldn't show up at all, and he doesn't call. I mean, we have cellphones."

In response, Beck says, "I was totally surprised, the last time I'd seen him, he was like, 'I love you like a brother, you've helped us so much and I'll always be your friend.'"

But Beck isn't holding a grudge against Coyne, saying the attack reflects his outspoken personality.

He explains, "He's a showman and he picks on people sometimes. He does it to everybody, his band, his friends, anybody who walks in the room. I think in the press it comes off as an attack, but he's just on permanent truth serum."

More on Wayne Coyne HERE.

I like the both of 'em. Popstars tend to blather on in interviews & suchlike. At the end of the day, it's the music that speaks, right?

Another Wayne interview.

You used to be a fry cook at Long John Silver's. Ever spit in somebody's food?

I never spit. But I would do experiments with the coleslaw. I made 50 pounds at a time, and I worked there for almost 12 years, so I made a lot of that. And I would get bored. So I'd dump ashtrays literally right into the coleslaw and run it through the cutter, just to see if people would notice. They'd say, "Oh, something was in my coleslaw!" and I'd be like, "I don't know about that."

He just doesn't respect other people, if this is true. :D

:hmm: meh. bored kid in shit no hope job in fast food outlet put ash in food.
that ain't front page news - the unusual thing in that story is that he never spit in it which, frankly, is the least of your worries when you eat somewhere like that.

I remember him getting a lot of shit years back for the apparently disinterested way he talked about crazy people coming to their shows (when they were still roll up pay on the door kinda size) and one of them setting fire to themselves in the carpark or something. anyone remember that?

i think he can be quite hard edged - that's part of their "philosophy" really, they're not hippies and I think he's quite into personal responsibility yadda yadda, which considering the people he grew up with makes sense.

He also took a jab at the Arcade Fire recently - called them pompous. I really like them, but "pompous" is the exact word I'd use to describe them :D

Oooh, so that was it. Well, it was fun to see all the indie kids at each other's throats when this happened :D

Coyne also said that The Flaming Lips will likely give a series of shows during which they will play their 1999 album, 'The Soft Bulletin', in its entirety.
