Stratford. The most boring place in london

So, basically what you're saying is that Stratford is crap because you can't easily get back from some awkward location that you've specifically chosen after midnight...? :D

No, it's crap because you have to get back from somewhere at all. It's hardly in the middle of nowhere, so it should have several decent pubs and clubs that you can walk to, really. There don't seem to be many museums or art galleries there either.

I think it's a decent place to bring up kids (the Discovery Centre's great), but that wouldn't help DD :D

There are clubs if you're into the black music scene.

Used to be the Passmore Edwards museum, think it still exists in Stratford Village somewhere.

To be honest, it wasn't very good as a museum. Few dead animals in glass cases doesn't really make for a good museum. Went there a few times in my yoot and it did inspire me to take home a dead pidgeon and try and boil it so we had the bones left....though my mom caught us before we got close to any utensils.

Oddly you can see the road I grew up on in that map.

Also that big building, on the corner, was not a part of the Museum at least from the 80s onwards, it was Stratford library for the longest time, that I believe was taken over by UEL. The domed building that is just past it was the actual musuem. As far as I know it is just closed down now, nothing there at all, exept the building, but its been awhile since I looked at it with any thought. Might have a look next time I am there.

I like Stratford. It's a good town.
So stop being beastly about it, just because it's about to get multiple Olympic input.

Don't hate.

Used to always be round Stratford on my bike as a kid, remember the Broadway opening, as it was the first real shopping centre I can recall.

Bought my first records in the HMV Shop there.

Saw West Ham bring the FA Cup back on open top buses twice in Stratford.

It's a shithole now though to be honest.

Awful, awful place.

The only upside is that if you head towards there from Plaistow, you're further away from Plaistow.

If only Shakespear hadnt been born in that other Startford but here......

During @limpics I record a cardboard Anne Hathaways house could be used to foll many foreign punters like

Go and get some chips at the Brothers fish bar......I was at NELP/PEL/UEL in the v. early 90's and lived at Temple Mills, which made Stratford centre seem like an elysian paradise.................

Genuine true story, in about 1986, when I was living in Leytonstone but had gone to look for a particular shop in Stratford, I was asked by an elderly American couple in Stratford Broadway (E15) what the best way was to get to Shakespeare's birthplace  :p :D

No problem.

Central Line to Mile End,
Hammersmith & City to Baker St,
walk to Marylebone, get the train.
(Bearing in mind the US conception of distance...)

Mind, you, IIRC in 1986 the answer would have been a tad more complicated:

Central Line to Tottenham Court Road
Northern Line to Euston
get the train to Birmingham
find an hotel to wait until the morning, likely
get the train to Stratford-onAvon

This being much like the couple who went looking for Brixton and ended up in the middle of London... :D

There's a pretty decent comedy night on Mondays at the theatre royal next to stratford tube station. Best thing is it's free! And you do sometimes get some hot acts trying out new stuff as there's always a lively crowd.:)

Why not do a night class in stone carving or bench joinery at the building craft college?
