Stonehenge 2008

Yes, love the Ridege way! Once on the way back I decided to pitch camp Waylands Smith and got totally freaked out! Beautiful place during the day but scared the willies out of me by night.

Barbury Castle is impressive also. There are a whole load of historic places along the way. I heard that the same path used to run all the way down to the coast at Dorset.

I think it runs from the Chilterns to the Dorset coast only coming down twice, to cross the Thames and another river, possibly the Wylie (?). One day I'll walk all of it.

Feck I don't think I can go now. Will know for sure later in the week. :(

What's happening in London for Solstice? :D

If you have a mountain bike you can cycle from Goring and Streatley to Avebury in a day - no problem.

From Goring and Streatley it's bridal way all the way. You can take a train to G&S.

If you don't fancy cycling back cycle to Swindon, which is just a few miles away from Avebury.

1988?

There was a big long party the night before in some woods a couple miles away, a couple of hours of close up scraping around the stones when the police denied entry, runing battles through the fields on a loverely sunny day, then when finally beaten we went to Avesbury and the pub nr by the stones, before going back to the site.

There were depressing asspects to the day. But at the time I had a blast with old friends, made some new ones and had a very active and stimulating weekend!
:)

bloody hell !! 'Henge '88....:cool:i was there :D

Attica Camping in winter is generally depressing in the UK, think the winter solstice is best off for those practising rites, rather than party type celebrations imo.

I thought 1988 winter solstice was ok. Everyone parked up on the byways, I think Ozrics played maybe even Hawkwind too much Merrydown numbs the memory, cold and damp sunless dawn on the stones. Lots of Chilums etc.

End of an era really in the space before the next one, by summer 89 Acid house systems were showing up at the free festies and the whole scene changed. :)

Camping - we're hard up north, i slept in a coat:eek::D under the stars. Can't remember much tbh must have been drinking again...

Ha I went with only a coat and water proof poncho to sleep in but managed to blag a place in a nice warm bender to sleep in :)

This year spent Solistice on a 12 hour drive from north Bahia to the south, it was a loverely clear star filled night with lots of fog and mist. Times have changed!
