Butter the old stollen

All dried fruit is on my shit list. I've tried to like the more obviously fruit-like stuff, like dried apples and apricots, but even that makes me heave. Sultanas are the height of puke as far as I'm concerned - like sluggy pockets of pus.

As you can imagine, Christmas is a food paradise for me

there's loads of it down the hippy organic food place I shop at. and mince pies, pannettone etc etc

I am determined to put off buying any for at least another three weeks

Ahh that will explain why I used to be called a hippy by housemates. I didn't realise it was hippy fodder.

It's not, just that the versions they sell are organic hippy ones

No butter. Butter is for Soreen.
I had toasted pannetone in an Italian deli yesterday, and that was nice buttered.

I have never heard of anyone putting butter on stollen, but I can't vote in the poll because of that comma.

Out, damn comma, I say, out!

Yup, Lidl. Their standard Stollen is one of the best & cheapest out there. @£1.50 last year. Not looked at them this year yet.

A few nice bits of food is about as near to chrismassy as I get! :D

OOh lovely, I'll get one of those, but as Annakarpik is gluten intolerant I'll just have to manage it on my own.:D

Yum, yum,

did you say Lidl, Firky?

Oh, Tannenbaum O Tannenbaum....

I got it from Aldi which is an upmarket Lidl haha. Nothing with Aldis, they're German and so is Stollen so I doubt they'd buy in crap stollen.

Say hi to your daughter for me :D :o

If Anna is gluten intolerant she may be OK with stollen as it is made from yeast rather than flour, no?

MMmmmm my mum is going take me to Aldi's before chrimbo.....i'm going just for the stollen really.....

mmmmmmmmm

1.5 Kg? lol, you are nuts!

bit of a guilty stollen pleasure of mine as and when it gets older (they keep really long) toast in the toaster and put some butter on, yam. with a cup of tea naturally..!

erm

its made with yeast and flour

made with yeast no flour - thats marmite you twat!

butter on it??

this thread has confirmed my opinion of you. you donkey!

i have to say though that the quality of lidl aldi etc stollen is non comparative to homemade one.

it's logical isn't it. the ones in shops are oversugared and preservatives and made of cheap ingredients.

the best one my granny used to make :)! i guess i need to start making my own one day soon.

stollen and marmite,,,urrggs!

(btw i also get a bit of a dried fruit overdose from stollen but i enjoy one or two pieces occassionally)

I love stollen - would never put butter on it though.

I've never tasted home-made stollen. I imagine it must be uttery orgasmic.

While I hate stollen, but if i were to be forced to eat it, say at gunpoint, I would certainly put butter on it.

:D
