Stokefest Returns! 24th September

Mapped

London town
I saw a loads of posters advertising this at a party on Saturday so thought I'd check it out.

It seems as though Hackney Council have rectified thier fuck-up and the free festival in Clissold Park is going ahead on Sunday 24th September :)

http://www.stokefest.co.uk/

I went there last year and had a good time with some decent reggae, hip-hop and excellent carribean food.

I don't know many of the acts on the programme, but I've heard Deadsilence are quite good

I suppose we should just be grateful they got it for the end of September and not the middle of November.

LB Hackney probably don't have time for any events in November; the grand opening of thier outdoor swimming pool will probably be keeping them busy around that time.

The Rosinators are cracking, looking forward to seeing them again. Plus seeing Deadsilence for the first time. I'm sure there'll be more too.

Hope the weather holds out!

*BUMP!*

Bumping, in case people carelessly forget about this for NEXT Sunday.

It's more or less the last festival of the year (for most people, anyway), it's free, and it's a cracker :)

Checked the site properly now. Some interesting stuff on the Sunday Revelator stage. The Rosinators are class  and that 'surf noir' Bikini Beach Band headlining sound like they're worth investigating! :D

Solution Sounds and Gladys Wax are always very  -- they have their own tent ...

There is a 'Bassline Circus/Word of Mouth' tent as well, which our very own Urbanite sherriff rosco said in another thread that he might be working at ...

Deadsilence Syndicate (hard drum and bass) sound like they might be worth a check ... :)

I saw a poster when I was up in Clissold Park last weekend & I'm sure it said Bassline Circus was a fiver in.

But to be honest that may be after the festival cos I think they are there all week, starting the 24th.

Could well be - you did have to pay to get into the Bassline Circus tent at a free festy in Victoria Park this summer (the name of the festy escapes me - enchanted garden or something like that).

Glady Wax, oops!!! :o

Not Gladys, then. Sorry Garf! :o

Paying for Bassline Circus?? Doesn't mention it on the main Stokefest site? Didn't see it. Can someone find out please?. Surely that wouldn't happen here.

Sure that poster was for THIS event???

They'd have to have quite a well worked pass in pass out system if they were charging at a particular tent in an otherwise free festival. I'm sceptical.

Entirely different event, and if that one was advertised as a free festival, that's false advertising ....

In the case of Stokefest next week, this is more reassuring

I'm willing to bet a pint with the firstcomer that you won't have to pay next Sunday during the fest.

The poster I saw was for Bassline Circus itself & said it was a fiver in & the circus is in the park for a week starting the 24th Sept at Stokefest.

So could go either way I suppose.

Yeah it was an entirely different event. At Stokefest the bassline circus tent is one of the music arenas whereas at the festy in the summer they were using it for their own circus performance. It cost 3 quid I think but for that you got an hour and a half show which was really cool so I didn't feel ripped off in the slightest.....

Not sure if it was billed as a free festival anyway - although everything else was indeed free.

during the event the thing is free they use the baseline tent for other performances and then there's a circus thing at night which you do need ot pay for so yes and no. least that's the way it's always worked in the past ... I'm looking at the weather and wondering if hackney concil have done this to bankrupt the organisers again...

The festival is free but to get in to see the Bassline SHOW will cost ya. That`s to cover the cost of dragging the tent and performers to a lot of shows around the country this year ( and they lost a lot of work due to the festy being rescheduled).
This years show is fantastic with clowns , acrobatics, trapeze , chav clowns etc etc all to a background of LIVE mixed up music and rap!
Thouroughly recommended....

.p.

Hmmmmmm. Sounds like it could possibly be right up it's own arse. But we will see. And it looks like it's free on the website (see my previous post).

We went along to Vicky pk show, wasn't all that tbh, so i hope this one is better.

Fingers crossed that the weather smiles on the park, cos its usually an enjoyable day out. Publicity for these things seems really ropey, imo, there was a little do on in Shoreditch pk sunday gone that was virtually unadvertised.
