Stephen Fry on Vista

Forget windows. Ubuntu Linux all the way. Haven't used Windows in 3 years. Don't like Vista, my Dad has had so much trouble with it. I have used it.

Also I like Mac OS X, based on FreeBSD. No more viruses, spyware or bloody Windows Registry.

I'm even thinking of getting a MacBOOK.

I used a Mac for the 1st time the other day.

What a pain in the arse. Its like Vista on top of Unix but with some really annoying flaws, the 1st is the classic of not being able to resize via anything other than the bottom corner. Menu's at the top, meaning that your moving the mouse around much more than on a PC.

Their choice of VNC for remote desktop is also a right old dogs ear, on a Gigabit network it appeared slow. RDC might be windows only, but compared to VNC its the holy grail of remote desktop control.

Yup, don't doubt it. Which is a shame since at the time the board was perfect for me and still works, when the drivers let it, perfectly. Vista does have some responsibility however as it's designed to fall over at certain faults and for allowing and spreading ... the drivers that cause all the shite.
There are nVidia drivers that work, but MS has chosen automatically to install ones that don't?

This is a firm that seems to hate its customers.

Yes, Ubuntu. No more viruses, spyware or bloody Windows Registry with Ubuntu as well.

And the nVidia drivers work OK in Ubuntu ('cos of licensing issues you have to fetch them after installation, but that's made easy with a Wizard so no worries).

Plus Ubuntu is updated pretty regularly and incrementally every six months. There's none of this periodic lurching from one system to another (somewhat incompatible system) that MS forces on its users.

Expensive, forced upgrades are a bullet worth dodging, imho.

I was expecting it to be easier to use than windows.
OSX is far more intuitive than Windows, if you use it all the time.

Whereas Windows can be a complete doddle to master, if you use it a lot.

Apparently, after living in the same house for a while, blind people find it easy to get around.

And a hearty cheer for those folks who put 'em out on the street after a couple of years!
