-I think thats a fair comment.
He can be bored with whatever he likes, but for him to say I don't like Steely Dan because it's trendy not to is bollocks. I don't like them because I don't like them. I've never been trendy - I like country for Christsakes - I just find Steely Dan sleep-inducingly dull. He, however, likes them.

I like to be consistent. ;)

It honestly makes me really angry, for some reason - more than any other music. It's so smug, it's so predicated on technique above feeling, it's so bloated and shiny and intricate and soulless..

I have seen a dancefloor filled with good people go mental to Do It Again by Steely Dan.

That may reveal nothing more than the dangers of drugs, but it's got a cool, flowing groove, a tight b-line, a wicked melody and it sounds great played loud.

Most of the rest of SD's a bit dull, to my ears.

But Do It Again is a wicked track - even though - or maybe *because* - it's smug, bloated, shiny, intricate and soulless, valuing technique over feeling. :D

Never heard them I don't think

You probably have. It is surprising how many of their songs have seeped in there. Recently, they seem to have come back on the radio playlists big-time too.

Never a band I liked much but fine in the right situation (again, their music is tied-up with a certain time/person for me) & OK as wallpaper music IMO.
